I have a 1981 VW diesel pickup and just had the Motorola alternator rebuilt,
Now the Batt, light comes on when I turn key on but it stays on for about 5 minutes with the engine running. Shouldn't go off when the engine starts??

results of compression test
Thanks Dan I did a compression test and the numbers are, 1) 320
2) 380 3) 340 4) 380 how do they sound?
The engine(1981 VWdiesel 1.6L) Is running w/lot of white smoke out of the exhaust.
I have the Ipump off for a rebuild so I guess the next step is to remove the head.

The injection pump is leaking bad and it didn't before it overheated. I am having a mechanic do a compression test today. I am hoping it ...

1981 caddy diesel head replacement
Thanks for your help. Yes I have a Bentley and plan to get the studs.
The engine overheated, I don't know if the head is warped yet. If it is I plan to get a rebuilt one would agree with this?

Removing Head 1st time,, special tools?
This is the first time I will be removing the head on a 1.6 diesel head.
Do I need any special tools?
I have worked on a gas head but never a diesel
