Injection pump timing

THis is my first time working timing the injection pump on our 1.6TD. Can someone please explain the dial indicator process? I am attempting to do what Bentley outlines but not getting it. 1. I insert the dial indicator. Lock it in place. 2. Rotate counter clockwise until it stops moving. Set the fa...

Thanks for the advice. I am not a newbie when it comes to diesel, biodiesel, wvo, diesel purge etc. The biodiesel use is based on the bumpersticker that it came with. WVO may have been used, but unlikely. it is cold here and an unheated system would make things a mess. I actually tried the diesel pu...

biodiesel was used.
Not sure about WVO.
I am thinking of timing, and fuel line.
When I start it, it fires right up, but is rough and smoky.
So I am thinking that it is not the IP front seal after all.

Great advice.. thanks.

The cold start cable is functional. The glow plugs are operational. I have not done a compression test, but wouldn't poor compression cause smoking when driven? There is no smoke when it is warm. It runs well and has plenty of power. I am still seeing air bubbles in the line between the IP and the f...

It start rough regardless of the temperature. I replaced the glow plugs. I've been seeing air bubbles in the fuel lines between the tank and the filter, as well as between the filter and the IP. I don't have to crank forever to start it, but it smokes and runs very rough. The last owner let it sit f...

Injection pump front seal (cold start issues)

New to this forum, but I've done some searching on this topic. Basically, I have a cold start issue that seems to be related to the front seal of the IP. the previous owner ran biodiesel, which I understand eats this seal. My question is, what is the best way to replace it? I need to pull the pump? ...
