Re: Say it ain't so

Excellent you're back!
This is the site that got me to understand diesels, IDI's in particular. I always thought diesel was sucked into the combustion chamber similar to how a gas engine worked.
Hagar's posts should be mandatory reading for all new IDI mechanics

Link to VE pump disassembly and assembly Kiki-Bosch pdf

http://www.4x4.ee/docs/nissan-SD-dieselengines/sd-3of3.pdf It's a Kiki-Bosh manual for Nissan/Datsun that's very thorough. There's adjustment specifications I've not seen elsewhere along with good visible drawings. VE section starts on page 44. This may have already been posted elsewhere on the site...

Re: List Your Homemade VW Specialty Tools Here!!!!!!!!

Right on the misalignment, the picture above that one looks like it's lined up good so I'm not sure what he did. I just know it's difficult to get that inner one in the correct position.

He did take some excellent procedure pictures showing all the detail.

Re: Crankshaft bearing placement?

Yes, I just got some Loctite for the oil squirters and will install those prior to the crankshaft. I've already done a crude test on them with an air nozzle, and they do flow once the pressure is applied. I'm pretty sure they're supposed to open at 20psi but have no way to test it. I just know they'...

Here's a better picture of the original PVC street elbow and the finished tool side by side. http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x411/JDinReno/1985%20VW%20Jetta%20TD/Int%20shaft%20pvc%20pieces_zpsa5nlmpjl.jpg Here's a 1 1/4" push/press by 1" threaded bushing that will work for the outer be...

Re: Possible engine swaps

Try this guy in Southern California, he's got many of the AAZ engines, among others, available.

Intermediate shaft bearing tool, perfect fit.

I've found the perfect PVC pipe fitting to install the intermediate shaft inner bearing. It's a 1 1/4" street elbow. I just sawed off the male end of the elbow, did a small bit of filing on the rough end and it fits PERFECTLY. No filing or "lathe" work is necessary on the part that ho...

Crankshaft bearing placement?

This is my first time replacing the crankshaft bearings and there's a difference between the replacement set and the originals. If you read the instructions on the box (see phote) it says the bearing with the extra hole belongs in journal #1. In the first picture I've placed the five bearings in the...

Intermediate shaft bearing replacement, another idea.

Found this while searching and it looks good.

A fairly simple idea using a piece of all-thread, washers and misc parts.

Re: 1987 VW Quantum Syncro - Convert to 2.0 turbo diesel

Well........I had to replace an engine and put new axles in my Dodge Cummins and replace a head in my Volvo along with a LOT of small things done to my "fleet" so I will probably start this in April (2014). I have all the major parts and I will post the updates on this site once I get star...

Engine support to hold running 1.6 on engine stand

I needed a way to mount the engine on a stand and still be able to start it so I Sawzall'ed a bad tranny and can now mount the engine on a stand and start it!! There's a few custom made spacers to make it all align and I usually have supports from the engine mounts down to the engine stand for addit...

Re: 1987 VW Quantum Syncro - Convert to 2.0 turbo diesel

And some pictures of a spare head I found. It was completely rebuilt and appears to have been shaved a bit to much. The cracks between the valves were welded and remachined, new valve stems and seals, and it looks pretty good. The guy I bought it from in Minnesota also threw in a spare cam. So if an...

Re: 1987 VW Quantum Syncro - Convert to 2.0 turbo diesel

Engine update! It runs strong on the stand! It's an Ontario, Canada engine and was quite rusty and corroded but when I took the pan off it all looked pretty good inside except for one crushed/missing oil squirter. I've got a replacement coming from a guy on the D2.4T site. The injectors were VERY di...

Re: Sad day, new beginings..

I've appreciated your posts as I've learned about these unique and impressive vehicles. It seems it's always a matter of time or money. What are we doing with our time (crawling around in the snow or on a cold cement floor) and do we have enough money. Are we spending as much money as someone who pu...
