Starter / Transmission Problem (Hunted)

Before The same problem has hunted this car as discribed below. I ended up doing a clutch replacement and while I was at it, I did the starter (new) / transmission (good/strong condition) swap. After Starter When I go to start the car in the FREEZING COLD (-22) it turns over the engine 1-2 revoluti...

Re: Whats behind this on the IP?

That's the bolt you remove to screw in the dial gauge to set the base timing. I do believe it has either a rubber o-ring or a copper crush washer. Not the bolt to screw in the dial gauge (coper washer is the seal) but the big screw in nut (three sided socket) (between the delivery valves) that hold...

Whats behind this on the IP?

The pump is for a 1.9L - dual stage injection.

I want to know if there is a seal in here and if I unscrew it from the pump will anything fall out. Well maybe except diesel fuel.
I believe mine leaks from here as its wet around and both lower Delivery-valves are wet.

Re: 1.9 AAZ ticking Noise

You didn't mention which piston you replaced. Please go in more detail as of why you replaced the piston (damage? or just for kicks) Which piston did you replace? #4? WHY? I'm assuming pistons started to hit valve's that why you replaced the head and piston 4 as they had the most damage so you repla...

Ball Joint Adjustment

This Quote is from "DIY: Drive Axle Flange Seal Replacement" I have just read this write up--excellent. I did the same job around 4 years ago on a '90 Golf GTI. One thing I noticed in the Bentley at the time "CAUTION The slotted control arm ball joint mounting holes should never be us...

1.9L TD AAZ into a 2.slow shell (SWAP) - MK3

I'll soon begin my first diesel swap replacing a Mk3 2.0L engine and keeping that Lager input shaft tranny. I mostly have everything in order but correct me if I'm wrong. Before I stored the engine, I ran pure ATF through the system for 5 min. then turned the key off as I was getting low on ATF Thin...

Re: 1.9l aaz fuel smileage?

kevin g, You could always swap engines. I've seen a 1.6L NA in a MK3 and buddy was stating he was getting close to 1000Km per tank and he also lives in the bush so no street light to stop him. One concern is air drag so wax the front till your eyes fall off. I also hear there use to be a bottom cove...

Volkswagen Transmission Main Input Shaft Play

I’ve been poking around over several site and no one seems to (even the book) talk about play on the main input shaft on a 020 transmission nearest to the clutch/engine.

I do know play is bad but how much play is tolerated?

Watch the play on this shaft at YouTube

electric problem glow plugs, alt flickering action [Solved]

1997 Jetta 1.9L TD w/AC I've been having an electrical problem. Starter would not stay engaged but this is not my problem that I'm concerned about. Alternator is new as of beginning of the winter 2010. This spring, things have gotten worse. Before engine Start-Up: On glow plug cycle; the odometer re...

1) Healthy hosepipes and the colant top up cap will release the water. 2) Healthy hoses, and the top radiator hose being the largest diameter, will blow up like a bslloon, and burst, probably just outside the head outlet area. Also be very stiff as in rock hard.. I wonder if the last owner did the ...

Very normal for the mk2/mk3 during the hotter months here in Canada. but once it gets chilly out and I use the heater blower. Doesn't get hot unless I shove it on 2 or 3 (fan speed). Usually 3 even's it out and 4 cools it down below 1/4 (gauge reading) during the winter. -20oC, I Don't even bother t...

How long has the Caddy been sitting? Using the same fuel that was in the tank? Could be stuck rings. Burning old fuel. Coolant finally settling in. Is your coolant line really stiff when the engine is at operating temperature? If so, could have a cracked head/block? Does it overheat fast? Coolant sp...
