Re: Add-A-Link Thread

Can't get much more simple than that.

Looks like we might be getting a 90 day break on the tariffs.

Re: Add-A-Link Thread

I've been thinking about the tariffs.
I have a pretty good stockpile of parts but should probably get a spare ALH timing belt set.
I'll appreciate the links you posted.
They have saved me a bunch and they are going to be more important with rising costs.

Re: 1996 passat tdi

Thanks for clearing that up.
I saw the adapter while searching for one with a banjo.
But I wasn't sure the adapter I linked to would actually work with the other style oil return line.
Not sure the prothe return line I linked to is the right one either but pretty sure that has the right part ...

Re: Saw a rabbit diesel at an auction

If I ever get the '84 GTI TDI built and sorted out I plan to sell it.

I have too much put into (Pa)Tina to ever sell her.
Every time I find a rust hole I replace it with stainless.

I probably have enough parts for one more Rabbit build,
if I do build another one it will be a pickup.

Saw a rabbit diesel at an auction

Bronze/gold colored body, with velvety, maroon front seats.
Dash looked good, not even real droopy above the glove box,.. very much anyway.

Glue-on wings soooo, one of those was missing a latch and ...

Re: 1996 passat tdi

He needs the banjo one.
You might be able to use this adapter to attach the other type:

Hans has a cheap one of the other kind:

Re: Classic old vacuum pump, you don't see often

I don't think so.
My first Rabbit was a '79 and,... it was a long time ago but I think it had the curly Q oil line to the vacuum pump and the I-shaft was the same as other 1.5D I-shafts.
Different than a 1.6D I-shaft because the bevel wasn't cut to clear the crank,
but it spun the same direction ...

Re: Classic old vacuum pump, you don't see often

Maybe,.. the oil pump shaft was a different length.

You couldn't just put this on a later engine, even with the oil filter mount and curly Q oil supply tube.
The oil pump would have to go with it.

Classic old vacuum pump, you don't see often

Here's a classic old vacuum pump:
https://wausau.craigslist.org/pts/d/stevens-point-vw-diesel-vacuum-pump/7798311653.html

It has the compression fitting connector on the side because a curly Q supplies oil
from the oil filter mount to the vacuum pump.
This is from an old '79, 1.5 diesel.
Later ...

Re: MK4 TDI clutch shuttering. Time for change.

Up and running smooth again.
Had to pull the lower motor mount "dog bone" to change the clutch.
There were mounds of crap stuck in the frame behind it.
Had to sweep, vacuum and clean everything out then spray corrosion inhibitor in there.

Re: MK4 TDI clutch shuttering. Time for change.

Got the trany back in.
Those little triplesquare bolts are so shallow the tool needs to be in great shape.
Very little of the tool sits inside bolt head.
That goes for the flywheel-to-crank bolts too and they get torqued pretty tight during that last 1/4 turn.

Everything else was a breeze.
I seem ...

MK4 TDI clutch shuttering. Time for change.

My MK4 Jetta has her wheels in the air and the trany out.
The clutch was shaking the car when taking off and didn't seem to want to completely disengage between gears.
had to kind of rev match to get it to go into gear.
When I took it apart there were about 10 cracks in the pressure plate and a ...

Re: Add-A-Link Thread

That link you posted just saved me about $40 on TDI crank bolts and rear seals.
Saved that much on a fairly small order that ended up being $90 shipped instead of $130.
