Re: Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
Just an update. It turns out that I have been using biodiesel for the past 4 months not realizing it would be a problem. I changed the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter and drained the water out of the water separator. It's running like a charm now. I've also started going to a different gas stati...

Re: Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
My dad and I are going to do some troubleshooting on Sunday to see what's what. In the meantime considering my job is 55 miles one way I'm borrowing my mom's car for the next two days as to not strand myself on the highway. I'll update when I figure out what is wrong but I'll have more info if nothi...

Re: Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
I can't send a picture right now but I'll try to tomorrow. It's a k and n cone shaped filter, no box.
It will sputter when I rev it but not just idling. It's much worse on hills but still noticeable otherwise.
There hasn't been a computer added

Re: Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
I wasn't reading fatmobile's reply properly. A clear line would be easy to do.
If there are air bubbles how do I get rid of them?
How would the bubbles get in there? I haven't replaced any fuel related parts on it recently. This seemed to pop up overnight

Re: Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
I can rev it when its idling just fine with the pedal or with the throttle mechanism. This was literally an overnight thing. I drove it the day before and the next day it started doing this. There was no warning. I'm really hoping that the sensor wire being loose was the issue. I'm not so sure I'm q...

Re: Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
What about the sensor? There is a sensor between the air filter house and the turbo is it called something other than a mass airflow sensor? I actually checked it last and the rubber around wire coming off of the sensor was bunched up and it seemed like it might have been loose so I'm hoping that co...

Does limp mode exist on a 92 jetta turbo diesel?
I seem to be having the symptoms of what the web is calling limp mode or limp-home mode. Most of the information out there says that this is related to the Mass Airflow Sensor. The only problem is that I have searched every parts website out there and there doesn't seem to be sensors like this for M...

Re: Another Alternator Belt Tensioner - 3VX belts?
Well my experiment is over for now. I'm going to back to the stock setup but with the brand new pulley and a bando 9.5mm x 700. I went through two belts so far due to cogs tearing off with this modified setup. I want to test it out with just the new pulley and maybe I won't have to tighten it as oft...

Re: Another Alternator Belt Tensioner - 3VX belts?
just got done putting on a new idler pulley. The one that was on there was so bad that the bearing was clicking and was most likely the original from 92.
240617mi: New Belt, New pulley
We'll see how this goes

Re: Another Alternator Belt Tensioner - 3VX belts?
I'm from the Pittsburgh area.
A new 70mm pulley (gates 38088) will be here Monday and I just ordered the bando 2275. It's .38in top width and 27.5 in circumference. I also have two cheapos from advance auto parts that I'm going to wear out as well.

Re: Another Alternator Belt Tensioner - 3VX belts?
I recently discovered this thread and decided to give the mod a shot on my 92 jetta 1.6 TD. I'm into it about 250mi with a gates 7280 and I'm already seeing missing cogs. I can tell I'm about to become very good at changing these belts. my idler pulley is the original so my next step is to look in t...
