Say it ain't so
I'd like to thank everyone here while I can. I've been involved in a few forums, mechanical and otherwise and this has always been, for the internet, unusually positive and helpful. I make my living wrenching now and the help I got here was a part of it. Was never made to feel dumb even years back w...

Re: Electrical Drain Mystery
I agree that all your numbers are in the realm of basically charging ok. Bad exciter wire sounds pretty much established .... makes sense and is a common fail. Still think there's a good chance you were hitting enough rpms to get charging on some drives but not others... and long drives (or average ...

Re: Electrical Drain Mystery
I've driven 2 of my cars for times with bad exciter wire connections. The alternator can still kick on but it takes a shot of high rpms. I would guess that on some drives you didnt hit enough rpms to excite the field and get the alternator charging.. 14.1 V is ok with me At night start it and see if...

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
You mentioned head gasket in very first post but it sounds like you meant valve cover gasket... damn that made sense in my brain for a minute. Bottle feed, compression.... make sure you turn for 4 compressions to hit every cylinder if your going by hand. Have you tried loosening injector lines one b...

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
Air situation looks ok to me too At one point I read this whole thread but I forgot everything now.... maybe that will help. At a glance, fuel appeared to be moving through system ok. Have you done bottle feed? Compression test? Correct me if I'm missing something, but the very first post mentioned ...

Have you turned engine by hand yet?

Timing stuff looks ok to me.
Where were we? Bottle feed? Crank by hand?

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
"Diamond notch" sounds like the one, but worth verifying. Lining up crank and cam seperately you kind of lose frame of reference. Someone on here once mentioned flywheel installed 180 degrees off. Theres a way to test tdc from cylinders and not flywheel if you want to check. Its on this si...

Re: Updated !!New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
Damn. Been gone a while and come back to this heartbreak. Im gonna take a step or 2 back because im not yet sure this new leak on this second pump is the real boogey man. Did you turn belt by hand after first or second pump swap? First timing belt? Theres a few marks on the flywheel, sure youre on t...

Re: Not much power after a pressure wash
The clear lines are for looking for air in the lines, or in no start situations, basic fuel flow. Its a good thing to check before moving on to more involved testing when you are starting or running rough. Further testing/ tooling around is often ill advised if you havent ruled out air in the fuel s...

Re: Not much power after a pressure wash
You can disconnect the stop solenoid on top of the ip to avoid diesel spillage during compression test. I would start by loosening then retightening each injector line one by one while idling and listen. Should hear a difference - rougher idle. Basic functioning test of each cylinder And clear lines...

Re: Hard start... where too next?
Did the starter bushing in the beginning when i replaced the starter. Battery is good, and start is bad even when jumped by bigger battery. Ive got a decent other engine from the pick up, but the car is too far gone i think. Rot. I had to put in a metal plate to keep the drivers seat from sinking th...
