Re: Help - 180 out timing

Well, I wanted everyone to know that the engine is now synched and is running great.
Thanks to all that steered me in the right direction.

While tuning the IP I found it was set to .83mm (book says .88)
So thats my next adjustment.

Re: Help - 180 out timing

Quantum Man- where do I find info on your fuel globule check? While I have your attention isn't a Quantum "close" to the same car as the Audi 4000? I'm just generalizing by the fore aft engine/trans, I had a 79 Dasher wagon 1.5D 4spd, now this Audi 4000. I like the layout. Ultimate for me ...

Re: Help - 180 out timing

Wow guys thanks for all the help. Admittedly - for my first time timing a VW 1.6 NA I certainly didn't expect to find a 180 out situation. I have the Audi service manual. (But it never assumed that one would find an engine "180 out") But I have a great idea. Why don't you all just come to ...

Re: Help - 180 out timing

Ok so tomorrows task is:
1. rotate the crankshaft to TDC (with belt on)
2. take off the timing belt and then slowly rotate the IP and cam to tdc (rotate to right)

My question is can this 180 out situation be solved like this or do I need to take the head off?

Cold Start Lever

Hello,
Recently I bought a converted gas now 1.6 NA diesel Vanagon.
Winter is setting in and I am used to using the standard VW cold start lever for faster starts.
The person who converted the Vanagon didnt put a cold start cable in.
Any ideas of where I can get a long cable for the final touch?

Re: Help - 180 out timing

Thanks!
Yes that helps! Now the last thing...
Isn't this an interference engine?
So can I turn the crankshaft to match the cam without valve/piston contact?

Help - 180 out timing

Hello,
first time R+R timing belt today and I discovered that the engine was 180 out.
(Cam was 180 to the crankshaft TDC mark) (Didn't know it would run like that)
So before I go further:
Any reassurance that if I turn the Cam / Crank to match at TDC will this thing ever start again?

:?

Cheers
