In dire need of the bracket and bolt that holds down the vacuum pump on my 1981 Rabbit Pickup, 1.6 diesel. Geez, I had the pump rebuilt by students where I teach and everything was fine for bout 3 months and today on the way home my engine oil idiot light came on. When I pulled over to check the sit...

Re: A/C Conversion from R12 to R134
Thanks Bob I did find a local parts store that still has a case of r12 and is willing to sell it under the counter so to speak for $22 per can. Kind of pricey but that should keep her cold for several years. Did you have to remove the compressor to get the old oil out when you converted? Or, can it ...

A/C Conversion from R12 to R134
Here in the South, it's time to get the A/C working. I just put in my last can of R12 and I'm sure that it will need more as summer rolls around.. I was wondering if anyone has made the conversion over to R134? Is this something that I should try myself, or bite the bullet and put Gertrude in a loca...

Re: Radiator Fan Question
Yup, you're right bout the ground clearance....actually it's higher than it looks, the angle of that pic makes it look lower than it is. More concerned about weeds etc. when I drive around my pond. I didn't want to put any holes in the body but it's an experimental work in progress.

Re: Radiator Fan Question
Update........ I found out that a PO had wired the fan to the AC Compressor switch on the dashboard..argh..... I purchased a new radiator switch and redid the wiring back to original. Everything is cool now and working as it should. Never guess what else that #&*% PO did....... When I replaced t...

Re: Camshaft to Pulley Drift Key
Thanks for the info...That will certainly make it easier to get everything lined up and in time. I was going nuts just getting it close every time, but always ended up with the crank one tooth off one way or the other. I'm learning........... Thanks again

Camshaft to Pulley Drift Key
I just did a head replacement on my 81 1.6 Westy Pickup and am putting on a new timing belt. When the original pulley was pulled from the old head, it hit the floor and we could not find the key that locks the pulley to the cam, so I made one. No problem... After installing that new timing belt twic...

Radiator Fan Question
While going through my recently purchased 81 Pickup; fixing every PO bandaid, I noticed something that struck me as odd. My radiator fan comes on for a short period whenever I start my engine. It makes me wonder if the fan is somehow being fed by the glow plug relay. Is this normal? It just doesn't ...
