Re: overheating vanagon at highway speeds
I have an aaz in a 82 vanagon that was new old stock as a vw industrial power unit and the thermostat that came in it is the 160F so I left it. Talking with one of the reputable importers out in Cali said that all the vanagons in Germany run their rad fan switches at 160F as well so I put that one i...

Re: '85 NA Timing and Smoking problems
I didn't lubricate it. What do you recommend? First pump rebuild and the manual I followed didn't suggest such. Bummer

Re: '85 NA Timing and Smoking problems
I had one injector that was leaking (very little) in the middle where the top and bottom screws together. I cleaned up the contact and the white smoke did decrease a bit now that the injector isnt leaking. I got clear lines in and out now and the line going in is solid with no air, the line going ou...

Re: '85 NA Timing and Smoking problems
Another question about the pump: I didnt do anything to the HVAC system on the top of the pump. Could air be leaking in here? Also, I have a rabbit pump, are the covers the same for the 80-85 pumps and the 86-92 pumps? In other words can I just do away with the HVAC and swap the rabbit cover on? It ...

Re: '85 NA Timing and Smoking problems
I re timed it according to Bentley, then went off of Vince Waldon's site for different timing specs wondering if this wasn't the original pump for this jetta. I have set it from .90, .95, 1.00, 1.05, 1.10, and 1.15 and then all the way to bumping it up a tooth until it doesnt run. I can't get it to ...

Re: '85 NA Timing and Smoking problems
I've double checked the lines, got a new filter, compression great, (this thing ran smooth until pump started leaking and then rebuild). Ive loosened all the lines and it doesnt matter, it still runs poorly with lots of white smoke. I just changed the head gasket so its not coolant, Ive detached the...

Re: '85 NA Timing and Smoking problems
So I am having the exact same problem as Harry did and after a complete diagnosis of following this thread, I would agree that it is my IP pump. Its an 89 Jetta with the HVAC and so my question is - why would the pump cause white smoke? Is it because the pump is pushing too much fuel through the inj...

89 Jetta diesel brakes troubleshooting
I just bought a Jetta for $650 today and drove it back home a half hour with a slightly blown head gasket and a leaking pump. I test drove it, brakes worked perfect. Paid the money got the title, then... while pulling out of the seller's driveway the driver side cv joint at the transmission fell off...

Re: DGK 121 126 and 17mm seal ordered.. great reaction
My bosch service center guy prefers the kind with no LDA/ADA. Says they aren't needed. So its not removable... I have another non-ADA off a rabbit that wasnt leaking when pulled, (although it would be wise to rebuild before putting on) so would anyone oppose me swapping them and scrapping the rest ...

Re: DGK 121 126 and 17mm seal ordered.. great reaction
i've only done one pump... the ADA on my 91 but you really don't have to tear into them very far to reseal what typically leaks... this time around i'm doing a 107AG to swap for my ADA pump to eliminate the ADA device as it gets in the way of injector rebuilds. -dan I just bought a Jetta for $650 t...
