Re: Rebuilt engine low oil pressure
It has to be something else then. Cam journals, or I-Shaft bearings. I figured it was worth checking on anyhow, as in my own experience, I have seen different oil filters do weird things with oil pressure. I'm not entirely certain I'd be totally worried in your situation, either though. I agree that...

Re: Rebuilt engine low oil pressure
I'm wondering if it might be worth trying a different one. I always ran the big Mann extra capacity ones, but I never checked oil pressure either. I know there can be large variances in oil filters and bypass pressure settings, filter material, etc. It'd be a cheap test anyways. I think Bosch makes ...

What kind of oil filter are you running on the engine?

Re: Little red pickup
Sadly I can't even find the 80s-90s in this area that aren't all rotten or driven into the ground. Its been years since I have owned one. I have a broken leg right now so I couldn't drive one anyways, but I keep my eye out for them. I would never scold anyone for having differing political views. Be...

Politics aren't banned here, I actively encourage it. The problem today is you can't have your own opinion. I don't censor, nor will I ever. For sure, our freedom is in jeopardy. I just wish more people realized that. You never did mention, were the delivery valves you took good enough to pass muster?

Re: Oil film in coolant reservoir
It could be the head. If it was skimmed, it means the PO suspected issues, or the shop that skimmed it did. I am always 100% suspect of any work previous owners do. While these engines are inherently simple to work on, there are a lot of bad mechanics out there that make, and excuse my french, piss ...

Re: Oil film in coolant reservoir
A very close friend of mine who has been in the automotive repair business most of his life (he's in his late 70s/early 80s now) got me interested in the VW Diesels in my mid to late teenage years. One of the things he told me early on was to avoid the 11mm blocks altogether. He made his career as a...

You can host for free at imgbb.com. That's what I use. It will generate links for pictures you post so you can link them in your posts. I am not active on vwdiesel.com (I think you meant vwdiesel.net?) I've been out of the game for a long time. I haven't owned anything diesel since around 2012-ish. ...

Re: pcv puck for stock 1.6 diesel
Yes, it was an MK2, and I was aware of the restrictors but it was easier to get some 5/8 heater hose and pop it to the ground then drill out the restrictors and worry about metal shavings getting into the cylinders. I didn't own the car much longer after that. I sold it to someone out of state. It w...

Re: pcv puck for stock 1.6 diesel
Well, I can tell you with certainty it was the crankcase pressure that blew the seal out. When I replaced the seals and timing belt, I did the hose mod and never had a problem with it again.

Re: pcv puck for stock 1.6 diesel
I did it because the engine had 300k miles and a ton of blow by. It had already blown the intermediate shaft seal out going down the road and blew 4 quarts of 15w40 all over the side of the car and on the road. The hose was to keep that pressure off the seals.

Re: pcv puck for stock 1.6 diesel
I took some heater hose, hooked it to my valve cover, and dropped it behind the transmission.

The Forum is back
First, let me say I apologize it took so long to bring this place back up. I have a very busy and hectic "real life" and in reality, I could've done this months ago if I put my mind to it. Its a lot of work because the forum was running custom modifications that I no longer had access to, ...

Re: A Couple of Questions
The 91 uses a gear reduction starter, the 81 uses a direct drive, so I don't thinky ou could swap the bushings. However, you can swap out the gear reduction unit for the direct drive unit. I did that. Maybe a local shop could rebuild your starter? We have one around here who typically does it for ar...
