Yea, everytime I work on someone elses "newer"
car, it reminds me of why fixing my old car(s) is worth doing.

Went to change the oil on my dads 2012 chevy, the plastic
lid to get the oil filter out is fused from someone overtightening it.
Decided to just change the oil and not the filter, risking ...

MANN C34109 on rockauto has got a great price.
shows for 83' and 84' diesels but sites like autohauz
say it fits an 82' - the regular snail air intake 1.6D
I did check the dimensions on the mann website
and it looks like it should fit really well.

Just slightly bigger dimensions than the Mann ...

It's hard to believe the work people must be willing to do in hopes to bring back
some of these old, simple machines. Goes to show the declining popularity of what's
circulating the car market today.
I saw a "functional" 1.6d mk1 caddy on craigslist yesterday, $8K. Post is gone today.

Doesn't that go with the mk1 intermidiate shafts that spin opposite the 1.6 diesel?
I was thinking that vac pump would be useful if someone wanted to run the
gasser/1.5D int. shaft and oil pump.

I think engines that used those might have had different (gasser?) oil pumps too.

I like to shop around because there will always be
more things after fixing that. Some people seem to
really enjoy spending big on a repair, but for me
I'll find another problem as I'm fixing the one.

One reason I was there was for their good prices on little seals and stuff for the 020 gearbox.

Rmeuropean.com has kinda of an odd website. They have A LOT of hard to find
parts at great prices, but it's often hard to find them on their website.
I often end up going to autohausaz, hansauto, fcpeuro, rock, or other places just for the german part number and
THEN use that search with. RMeuropean ...

btw, those clutches are bad about the springs failing
before the disk wears out.

I actually have a clutchnet 200mm disk that came with some extras
of an engine I bought off a guy, thing has NO springs.
Some kind of racing clutch disk. I don't know what I'll ever do
with that thing, looks cool ...

My first 1.6D had a terrible judder from a stop.
Finally pulled the transmission and found 2 of the clutch springs had worn down
enough to fall out. The pieces had been flying around in the bell housing so long it
really scratched up the aluminum.

A neat thing I saw, a friend had a
80's VW Brasilia (sold in Mexico) that
had a tab welded to the brake pedal
so you could put a padlock through it
and the clutch pedal, locking the pedals
together.

Super simple anti-theft device, looked factory made.

On a previous IP I put a spacer on the governor spring like the mod said,
but I don't think it helps any. The 1.6 idi can easily use more
fuel than the engine can get air for. It's not like I'm racing it.
