Glover Oil here hasn't had any kind of BioDiesel for a long time.
Whatever company was making it, has stopped.
Sucks, after running Bio off and on for over a year my merc diesel IP had nothing
but clear fuel when I did the Diesel Purge. Super Clean

Re: RIP "Old Blue"
Just a reminder of where the value of a good running and looking mk1 is continuing to go.

New, clean stainless compared to 40yo rust and oil impregnated steel?
No, I'm not being sarcastic, just dramatic.
Happy paint, happy... idk, maint-enance

That paint is going to love having SS to stick to.

Re: Diesel motor oil shortage coming.
My local Sam's Club just got a pallet of good 'ol 15w40 Delvac.
Box of 4 (1 gal) at $13 each.
Not great but I don't think it's going to get any better than that
so I picked it up to add to the stash.

Re: Oil film in coolant reservoir
Well, I ditched that engine and got a 12mm 1.6 that was already rebuilt to replace it.
It may just have a hidden crack in the head and the block is fine. The valve shims in that one were
all really thin. Even with studs the HG never did seal well.

Still working fine. Just put that flywheel and a new clutch on a rebuilt 1.6d and took it coast to coast across
the badlands of the sierra madre.

Re: Rebuilt engine low oil pressure
Just took it on a long trip, crossing mountains. Seems to be running well. Those rings are seated now :P I put in a stronger mix of coolant to raise the boiling point. I could tell that was going to be an issue when I got into some real steep runs so I did that before crossing the border. Still real...

Re: Diesel motor oil shortage coming.
Bastards A "shortage" in the US is clearly BS. The petro industry is MASSIVE compared to other countries. They're selling it out from under us. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Castrol-GTX-128-oz-15W-40-Diesel-Motor-Oil-15C468/312677665 I was buying these up for a while, they were $12 until jus...

Re: Rebuilt engine low oil pressure
That oil pump shaft bushing is really soft. I knocked it out with a 3/8 extension and it dented the metal where it won't go back on the shaft unless you hit it with a die grinder. Gotta use an exact size socket for knocking that bushing in (or out) to avoid having to do it over. Btw, the oil feed ho...

Re: Ohh that's not going to buff out
The insulation to wiring harness was falling off on my mk4 golf. Worth taking a look, I was just changing a bulb and found out both sides were wasted. Potential fire hazard. There is a company making them because it's such a common failure https://www.tunemyeuro.com/headlights/ The golf headlamps we...

I've always felt like the most everything about the mk4 jettas were a little better than the golfs,
except that it's a sedan.

Good save picking up the pieces of that (wtf?).
I've never seen so many things wrong about a tailpipe.
Exhaust, bumper, barber shop sign, rain gauge - all in one.
Very Dr. Seuss

It came with an alh intake too. Just found a post where andrew gives the part number for the oil pump bushing, https://www.jimellisvwparts.com/products/Volkswagen-VW/Passat/BUSHING/5134960/056103541.html better pic https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/oil-pump-bush-general-vw-use.html One of the few discuss...

Re: Rebuilt engine low oil pressure
I know this has too many possible factors going on, in addition to me not knowing how the engine was really put together, IN ADDITION to me not being willing to just start taking things apart to measure gaps. Even just plastigaging the cam caps - after reading posts about people cracking caps like i...
