Re: internal injection pump pressure

I got white smoke when I timed My Fuel Injection Pump too late. White Smoke = unburned atomized Diesel Fuel.

When you replace a Pump Head there is an adjustment that needs to be made with a shim/Button.

Re: First diesel!

On a Manual Transmission if the Shifter is in Neutral and the Clutch is released and is is making noise it is often the Input Shaft Bearing. However, on some Engines instead of a Bronze Pilot Bearing/Bushing there is actually a ball or needle Bearing in there so that could also be the cause of the N...

Re:

I wanted a way to keep the reamer straight. The plan was to drill out the center hole on a head. First problem was the metal was too hard to drill,... so I threw it in the woodburner and let it get cherry red and cool down slowly overnight. That anealed the metal and made it soft enough to drill. U...

Re: injection pump shaft bushings

Fatmobile thanks for source of the Info. Sqnimg96 I am going to try for .002" Clerance. And, I think I can do that because I am going to make a guide for the Reamer. I think I will be able to do that because I have a Metal Cutting Lathe although I have no training except 2 semesters of High Sch...

Re: injection pump shaft bushings

I bought an Old Stock New USA Made Expansion Reamer on eBay for a Total Cost of $17. That is what a new made in China one would cost but shipping would be added. This item was in the original package and wrapped in Wax Paper and in a Paper Tube So it might have been made back in the 1960s. Has some ...

Re: Loud rattle after modding the plunger

I know nothing about the specific Mods done. However, generically when you do stuff do only one thing at a time and then test what you did. That way you know what is causing any issues. It is the same thing if you are making repairs and not mods. If you fix several things at the same time you don't ...

Re: head gasket

I agree with rsxsr.

It is even possible for the top of the Block to be warped. If the top of the Block needs to be resurfaced that changes the Piston Protrusion.

Re: aaz injection pump throttle bushing

It could be that just replacing the O-ring would work. Once the Shaft is out of the Bore you will be able to look into the Bushing and with the Old O-rings off of the Shaft you can see how much Play you have to get some idea if the clearence is excessive or not. I don't know about your particular Fu...

Re: Excess Exhaust Issue

I am curious that no one has commented much on the Rebuilt Engine that has what must be more Blow-by then normal. Either the Engine was not completely rebuilt or something was done improperly. Unfortunately the common use of "Rebuilt" means different things to different People. As an examp...

Re: injection pump shaft bushings

I did a better job of Measurering the 17mm Reamer and found that the front part right after the tapered guid was larger than the rear portions of the Reamer.
So the reamer started off as being a bit larger than 17mm to start with.

I also ordered an Expansion Reamer.

Re: injection pump shaft bushings

Yeah, my reamers have the tapered guides that slides part way into the high pressure head I use as a tail guide. This keeps the tail centered. I don't know if a factory spec would be any help. Kind of like pistons, each cylinder is bored to match a piston not some standard number. The tool they mos...

Re: injection pump shaft bushings

I am posting this partial information since I was re-reading this thread to see if I missed something. In the Vangon thread the Guy said He reamed with a 17mm Reamer. I bought a 17mm Reamer and while it is difficult to measure the diameter of the blades I was sure that the diameter was larger than 1...

Re: Re:

A friend brought over some tools she was trying to sell. Happened to be some adjustable reamers in the nice wooden box. One of them seems to be the right size, just large enough. Says 19/32 - 21/32 and is almost not big enough. There was also a micrometer; Starrett #230 in the box so I checked the ...

Re: ip leaking again??

I the Seal Lip has worn a groove in the Pump Drive Shaft that can also cause a leak if the even if the Seal is new. If you run your Thumb Nail acrossed the Seal area on My Shaft you can eaily catch your Thumb Nail on it.
