i'm tinkering on my 81 diesel and forgot which way to rotate the injector pump to advance the timing...do you rotate the top of the pump toward the block or away from the block to advance the timing?

is it ok to run the engine on naptha and atf for a little while?...soaking in the solution did help but i think it would really loosen up if i could run it with the solution..thanks in advance

i'm selling my diesel pick up....i have put alot of work into it but now can no longer afford to keep it...it runs and drives but needs paint and interior work.it is located in phoenix arizona... it has a/c but it does have a slow leak...here is a list of some of the new parts on it: tires brakes br...

thanks for the reply...i think i'll try to half naptha and half atf...is it ok to fill the pump with it and let it set a couple days or will it hurt the seals?

tyler..thanks for the reply....i took the out bolt off and it was plugged...looks like there is a screen..but it is staked in...i dont think it comes out....does that hole have to be that small?...i have cleaned it twice and plugs back up again

thanks for the reply...i tried filling the pump with atf and ran it for a while..then let it sit...still no vacuum ,,would it hurt the pump to fill it with marvel mystery oil and let it sit for a day or two...would the motor run on marvel if i wanted to run it through the pump for a while?

on my 81 vw diesel caddy ...it set for about 6 months and now i have no vacumm coming from the injector pump...it wont pull any fuel from the tank...i have cleaned both fuel lines and still nothing..i put a vacumm gauge on the pump and no vacumm..any ideas on a cheap fix?

hey guys..thanks for the reply...i finally figured it out....in case someone else runs into this problem in the future...it was an inline diode that was blown...it was in the wiring harness behind the glove box

on my 81 caddy diesel i'm trying to get the a/c working...but the radiator fan doesnt come on when i turn the a/c on....anyone have any ideas?

thanks guys...i got it going...one of the wires in the relay plug pushed out when i plugged the relay in...i stuck it back in and it starts in 2 seconds when cold in the morning

i have to change the glow plugs in my pickup....the car came with a new set...is there any way to tell if these are the 7 second plugs or the wait forever?...and same with the the relay...how do i know if the relay is for the fast plugs...can you tell by the numbers on it?

do this cold or after the motor is warm?

in the past i read a post on the forum about setting the pump timing by ear..but i cant seem to find it...can anyone hear tell me the procedure for timing by ear?..thanks

im doing a rear brake job on my 81 pickup and the parking brake cables are froze...i was under the car trying to figure out how to replace them and it looks like the cable housing is permanently attached to the floorpan..has anyone replaced these?..maybe you can give me some tips?..thanks in advance

i have an instrument cluster from an 83 rabbit that has a tach in it..i'd like to put it in my 81 diesel pickup...i have an alternator with the w terminal on it....is this all i need or do i need something else to make it work?
