Re: Say it ain't so
I too am sad to see this site go away... and it sure sounds like its a done deal.
From what I have seen it has been a very informative group of experienced people concerned about helping each other out. Thanks for that.
With that said, what is the next best thing / site available as a substitute?

Bosch VE pump delivery valve sealing washers
does anyone have new Bosch VE pump delivery valve sealing washers , that could measure the ID / OD / thickness? I just bought a project with a leaky pump, and I think someone put the wrong sealing washers in the head. Thanks in advance.

Re: manual vs auto adjusting clutch cables
I have no objection to swapping over to manually adjusted cable, in fact I prefer it. I just am looking for whats different PREVENTING a swap (or a means to work around it) between the two cables. Its a daily driver, otherwise I would just dive into (and sideline) the car. From the little info that ...

Re: List Your Homemade VW Specialty Tools Here!!!!!!!!
I needed to change the head O-ring on another VE pump while it is on the car, previously I used the procedure from libbybapa (thank you!) http://www.vwdieselparts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5311&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 but wanted a little more forgiving procedure to hold the part...

manual vs auto adjusting clutch cables
Does anyone know for sure if the two can be interchanged on a given car? If it matters it is a 1986 Jetta 1.6D. I have a self adjusting cable that has a mind of its own and want to switch over to manual adjustment style. Seems to me that if the pedal assembly would be common between the two versions...

Re: clutch disc thickness wear limit spec?
you are 100% correct there, Bob - last night I started eng/trans removal disassembly and before I got it out I scrutinized that self adjusting cable closer (while grille and core support etc. were off so the clutch arm was completely exposed. What I previously described as freeplay was actually just...

clutch disc thickness wear limit spec?
I recall the Bentley manual listed some wear limits, but not the thickness wear limit for a clutch disc. When swapping in a different 1.6D engine, I had the self-adjusting clutch cable off. When I reconnected it clutch would not grab at all with clutch pedal completely out. My Bentley manual mention...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
I assume the misfire is due to compression loss, since a large amount of pressure is being sent to the coolant reservoir as soon as the engine is started - way too much and too fast to be due to thermal expansion. I haven't opened it up yet, I need to pick up a compression tester adapter before I op...

Re: Tips for a fail-proof head gasket - Any such thing???
the vent line was the first thing I checked, and it was still flowing. Mine has a pretty serious issue , it is pushing coolant out as soon as the engine is started, and engine is misfiring. I suspect the head gasket is shot thus the questions about which one(s) is/are best.
