Re: How hard can you push a 1.6 NA?

I should also add to the power thing.
I side stepped the clutch to a win over an 88' Chevy 4x4 today.
I was about a car length out on him when I hit 4th gear.
It's gotta be modified..

Re: How hard can you push a 1.6 NA?

Your transmission and tire size can tell you your rpm (provided you have the correct speedometer gear). A 1.6 in good condition should run 120kph all day long, with a typical 5spd. (~3500rpm) You could also guess your rpm with a smartphone and an audio spectrum meter app. 3000rpm is about 100hz. I ...

How hard can you push a 1.6 NA?

So this might sound kind of odd, but how high to these motors really rev? My car is a 91' Golf, and has 404,000kms. Was told by the previous owner that it was reringed at 280k. It runs pretty good, and I keep pushing it harder, and harder when I drive it. It seems like it revs to the damn moon!! Thi...

Oh..
Well I retort.. lol
I guess it is then. I just thought it was some kind of bypass, or some crap.
Now I know.
Thanx again.

Re: Pushing air from the fuel filter?

It's not the thermostatic one. I was a bit vague on what I'm running. It's an old MK2 Golf, with the N/A 1.6. That fitting on top of the filter that drains the return back into it was cracked. Looked like someone had smacked it with a hammer. I had noticed fuel around the lip on the filter before, b...

Re: Pushing air from the fuel filter?

Yep. It was cracked under where the pin sits. Thankfully I had another one sitting here. I topped off the filter, and burped the lines. Again.. So far so good. I also deleted the water separator while I was at it. Been meaning to do that anyway. Took me all of 10 minutes. Then I jammed a bigger/thic...

Re: Pushing air from the fuel filter?

Well.... I came to 3 different conclusions here. 1. The main fuel line is restricted, and isn't filling the filter fast enough? 2. The o-ring on the filter (return line) isn't sealing properly, and is allowing air into the filter? 3. A bit of both coupled with the check valve on the pump allowing fu...

Pushing air from the fuel filter?

So I have a weird problem.. When running my car for about a half hour it starts pushing air threw the lines. But it's not coming from the pump. Instead it starts getting air from the filter?? I bypassed the filter, and poof! No more air. But I don't want to run it with no filter.. When running from ...

Re: 1.6 N/A exhaust pipe size, and mufflers?

The turbo kills off a lot of that raspy snap. With a 2.5 pipe, and a glass pack it should sound good..
I have a 21" glass pack on mine. It seems like the more I drive it, the more it breaks in. It's starting to lose that snap.
I'm gonna get it routed out the back next paycheck.

Re: 1.6 N/A exhaust pipe size, and mufflers?

After swapping the exhaust manifold for a VW Fox 1.8L gasser's unit, I replaced the constipated 1 1/8" factory exhaust with 2.25" pipe & 18" long fiberglass muffler on our (1.6L NA diesel) Dasher wagon. Results: Very noticeable improvement in acceleration (need all we can get!). ...

Re: 1.6 N/A exhaust pipe size, and mufflers?

I did mine. The header fit nice, and I went to 2.25 pipe size with a thrush glass pack. I noticed a power gain, but wow.. It's loud!!! I set off 3 car alarms on my first test pass.. lol It does seem smoother though, and the motor doesn't seem to struggle off the line like it used to.. But I'm gonna ...

Well not all are the same type of fiberglass, and others are mixed with steel wool.
So ya.. Most fiberglass packings.
I decided to say screw it, and run a glass pack anyways.

1.6 N/A exhaust pipe size, and mufflers?

So I decided to try the gas header on my car, and have been thinking about pipe size? I think I'm going to go with a 2.25 pipe, (after hearing that a 2.5 is stupid loud). But I have to wonder? If I went to a 2.5, there's gotta be a decent muffler out there to keep the decibel level reasonable... Wha...

Re: 81 Jetta diesel is overheating

There might not be a head gasket issue? A sure sign is pressure building in the cooling system. Mine actually blew hoses off, and would overheat in a matter of minutes. If you feel air is still trapped, just repeat the process over again. It's a trial, and error thing.. lol My neighbor did mine in m...

Re: 81 Jetta diesel is overheating

I had a 16v passat awhile back, and the same issue as your describing. First thing to ask is, did you happen to notice any air bubbles or pressure in the system? I fought with mine for weeks before I realized the head gasket was gone. No coolant in oil, or vice versa. It was just pushing exhaust int...
