Find a 12 mm or 13 mm wide belt (instead of the oem 10 mm) which is the exact length as yours is and life will improve.

You know....even when these cars were fairly new, I NEVER did get any water out of one of these.

I would quickly lock the fuel pump with a pin. Then, remove the fuel pump sprocket nut and washer. Now, is the key-way at approx. 10:00 or 10:30 (clock-face) as you view it leaning over the passenger fender? Have you ever renewed the little bushing in the transmission housing where the starter's nose rotates in it?
As those wear, they require more work from the starter to rotate.

Was there any discussion re: the shape/condition of your battery?

Yes, there is an adjuster on the back of them to tighten them up a little bit.
Being you show Wisconsin.......you may well have a heavy dose of corrosion back there.

If you can free it to adjust it, a little goes a LONG way.

You can run any 90 amp alternator (not 16-valve variant) as long as you do not have a tach....which you probably don't.

You just need to buy a pulley set (from me) to put on the alternator shaft.

Correct, no timing on int. shaft. I have removed the sharp edges on all of my int. gears for over 20 years. I use a small hammer (with the pulley on a soft wood block for cushion) to remove the edge. Then, use a round file and a flat file to smoothen the surface. A grinder is fine if not over done. ...
