Re: Noisy Injection Pump
Find a 12 mm or 13 mm wide belt (instead of the oem 10 mm) which is the exact length as yours is and life will improve.

Re: Source for Mk2 jetta water separator valve?
You know....even when these cars were fairly new, I NEVER did get any water out of one of these.
They're kind of handy to disable someone's car though.......just wear a good steel-toed boot and go over and kick upward...........

Re: New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
Good for you....the sprocket is right. Another question: there are two fuel inlet-exit bolts on the fuel pump. One should say "out" on the top (stamped steel). This "out" bolt has a reducer in the bolts-port to help control the amount of fuel which leaves the pump. The out bolt n...

Re: New Injector pump = no power, lots of smoke and knocking
I would quickly lock the fuel pump with a pin. Then, remove the fuel pump sprocket nut and washer. Now, is the key-way at approx. 10:00 or 10:30 (clock-face) as you view it leaning over the passenger fender? You know...I really don't care about notches on the sprocket, etc. Just look for the key-way...

Re: 1.6 NA oil light at idle
Pitting can be caused from worn injectors which dribble between firings. Causes hot spots and erosion. Once erosion starts....erosion continues. Oil pressure is directly related to bearing wear in the engine......front intermediate bearing integrity plays a major role. As the front int. shaft bearin...

Re: Hard start... where too next?
Have you ever renewed the little bushing in the transmission housing where the starter's nose rotates in it?
As those wear, they require more work from the starter to rotate.
Was there any discussion re: the shape/condition of your battery?

Vic Reinz and Elring are just fine.
I would say the problem rests with your surfaces, preparation, and mechanical skills.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder
Personally, I have done very well with Oreilly auto parts rebuilds in my Mk. II's. I have never had one go "bad" or be "bad" out of the box. I probably have 4 cars with them on as well speak. They give life-time warranty. Keep your receipt. Understand that I swap brake fluid ever...

Re: manual steering rack
Yes, there is an adjuster on the back of them to tighten them up a little bit.
Being you show Wisconsin.......you may well have a heavy dose of corrosion back there.
If you can free it to adjust it, a little goes a LONG way.

Re: 86 VW Jetta Diesel - Fuel pump location?
You NEED to remove the fuel separator box on passenger rear bottom of car. The plastic ages, becomes brittle, and allows the fuel system to draw air.....causing the problem you have not totally disclosed. Remove the box, place a pusher pump (which will free-wheel when not energized) in that space, a...

Re: Random hard starts mkII
I had the same issue on a fresh rebuild. I swapped over to a Ford solenoid to turn on my glow plugs for like 4 or 5 seconds and never had a problem again. If it is good and hot....no plugs needed. If it is low to moderate warm....it wants a few seconds on the plugs. Runs like a molested gazelle. It ...

Re: Ac car alternator
You can run any 90 amp alternator (not 16-valve variant) as long as you do not have a tach....which you probably don't.
You just need to buy a pulley set (from me) to put on the alternator shaft.
PM me if you want to buy. Thanks.

Re: Power loss when warm, overheating
I NEVER remove them. Other people will say different things. They are simply held in by interference fit. The only time I would remove one is to replace a cracked one and I would employ an oven to heat the head prior to that procedure. If done that way, the valves and springs would have to be in the...

Re: Power loss when warm, overheating
Correct, no timing on int. shaft. I have removed the sharp edges on all of my int. gears for over 20 years. I use a small hammer (with the pulley on a soft wood block for cushion) to remove the edge. Then, use a round file and a flat file to smoothen the surface. A grinder is fine if not over done. ...
