Re: Quantum oil pan into a Jetta

I am getting further into building up this engine and I can not see any reason to not use the Quantum oil pan. Seems one difference is that there is an indention where the Q motor mount would go. Ground clearance is the same. Oil will flow to bottom where the pick up is. Another is the turbo oil ret...

Quantum oil pan into a Jetta

I am currently installing a Q engine into a 1992 Jetta. The machine shop that did the block part of the rebuild installed the cork oil pan gasket with some sort of heavy duty gasket sealer. I can not pull the pan off without a lot of force which I haven't tried because I would prefer leaving the Q o...

Re: mk1 020 into mk2

Thanks for the info.
I think I will just go with the gasser tranny that I have for now.
I only have my 2wd dodge truck right now and the snow is coming! Need FWD.

Maybe do a tranny swap later........

Re: mk1 020 into mk2

I have the trans from the 1992 gas Jetta. Can't remember the code off the top of my head- think it is 3 digit starting with A. I thought that I shouldn't use it because the gearing is different. Especially the final drive gear looks way off. I was afraid that I would be revving too high at highway s...

mk1 020 into mk2

I am trying to get my 1.6l TD from my pickup I recently wrecked into a 1992 Jetta gas donor car with a 5 speed gasser 020 trans. I am having trouble getting the Mk2 rear mount onto the FN 020. I have read through the posts related to this topic on this forum and others. I know that the Mk2 rear moun...

I ended up grinding down the cv axle flange. It actually went quite smoothly on the bench grinder. Might be something for people to look for BEFORE installing the axle.

Yes. I too was worried about how a washer would effect the axle geometry. I am going out in the garage now to try my luck with grinding down the problematic area. I don't understand why this would be necessary for me to do this at home. Aren't these things machined to spec? Reminds me of having to g...

Hi. I'm bringing this old topic back to the front because I am having the same problem. My new cv axle is binding up where it contacts the bearing housing when tightening the axle nut. You can see scraping along the axles outer flange and the inside of the bearing housing. This is actually the secon...

head gasket and coolant streaming into expansion tank

I think I know the answer to this one... but wanted to check it with you first. My friend had a coolant hose burst recently. After replacing the hose the car starts very rough. If you pull the coolant expansion tank cap, coolant is streaming out of the little expansion hose from the radiator. It is ...

The Quantums have the best feeling suspension of all the old VWs in my opinion. Based on the 'luxury' Audi line. The oil out the base of the dipstick is one of the easiest oil leaks to fix. -Remove oil dipstick bracket bolt that connects just below the back of the injection pump. -Pull dipstick stra...

FYI...
My 82 Pickup and 83 Quantum have no check valves at all in the fuel line systems. Just the gravity valve that connects inline with the tank breather line.
