I have never heard of any preference on the pre TDI diesels. Whether it's turbocharged or not, early or late. I'm hoping someone else will comment on this too. Phil

Beetles are very collectable in Canada. I've watched the prices soar up and I don't understand when there were so many on the road once. Might be a good investment, even if it wasn't restored. I would value that car at $2000 if the floor pan was good, maybe more. Phil

The wiring on the 1997 Jetta we are working on, is a nightmare. We are stripping everything off that's not practical. The theft horn was located but I'm afraid of the disable function for the injection pump solenoid. It has an OBD 2 plug and my Haynes book is no help. The headlights and glow plugs s...

Yes A1-2-A3, as Coke says, the water pump pulley is a double one(2 pulleys). I got a turbo diesel engine at the wrecker for $50 and I robbed the pulleys off it. The good news is that I can use my A3 steering pump and in the original location. The A2 alternator bracket with an A3 alternator, allows l...

Sounds good, I got my '97 Jetta running yesterday. I left the oil pan baffle out. We converted it back to the V-belt system. A mechanic at VW thought that was a good idea. All the serpentine parts are in a box on the bench. I was able to use the original alternator with an A2 pulley. The water pump ...

Re-Rabbit Resurrection. The first time I used a mig was on my Caddy floor. It did not like any contamination including paint or rust or that glue they use for holding the carpet down. I think mig-mix has CO2 in it. I used .035"wire but .023" is much better for the thin stuff. Takes a while...

More questions about the 1.9 IDI

1. Got my 97 Jetta cylinder head back today with the seats ground and new guides installed. Machinist did a quick check in his book and said my new valves should be 1.377" from the top of the stem to the surface of the spring seat. I get 1.460"average. There are no washers used under my sp...

A little late posting but try cleaning the coking around your heat shields, then see how long before the problem comes back using your new injector line heaters.

Looking good the way you've got that body set-up. Let us know how this poor Rabbit makes out. I'm starting to like the colour too. It reminds me of the Terex green I got out of the US to paint a Tree Farmer. We have some left and my son wants to paint the Caddy that lime green colour. Do you have th...

I like canola oil that has no cloudiness at 32 degrees F, should look like maple syrup and pour like motor oil. I use 2 very large tanks painted black out in the sun for storage.
