Re: 86 Jetta rear brake proportioning valve

I took that valve off a 97, it was leaking a little. Works fine without it.

Re: Solenoid style KSB valves

Thanks for the info. I'll try to attach a pic of my pump.

Re: Solenoid style KSB valves

I've got an '05 Iveco engine with a Bosch rotary pump. Lacking a service manual, I was puzzled as to the purpose of a small solenoid valve located in the side of the pump head. Do you have a picture of the valve your referring too?

Re: setting injector pump timing by ear

I tried adjusting the timing on a running 1.6 once. Quite an educational experience, the difference in sound that the engine makes. Too much advance and it does indeed sound like you are working in a ball bearing factory.

Re: Vacuum readings through your fuel system

I get concerned when I see about 5" on the gauge, 7" and it's definitely time to do something. Had my Rabbit truck up to 16" once, then it really started to slow down. Never have seen a vacuum gauge in psi. How many inches of mercury in one psi, is it about 2? Have to look that up. I'...

I always give the socket a light rap with a small hammer, on any taper, after torquing. Always requires a re-torque, sometimes I do it twice. Phil :)

A favorite is the 5 cylinder 617 turbo diesel engine in the mid '80's 300 model. I drive the earlier NA version in a Ford Ranger every day, but power is just borderline(80hp). Best to do your research over on the Merc forum first, before you by a car. The 4 cylinder has got to be an absolute dog, I ...

One of the cons is that when it comes time for nozzle replacement, they have to be set up by an injector shop. Probably just as cheap to buy a new injector. I believe the fuel line assembly is different too, due to the longer length of the injector. Wish my son's 1.9 had the early injectors, I've on...

I think that's a great story, a Rabbit lost in the bush. Obviously she feels at home there and gets around well. I suppose some of this was done on veggie oil, the other wildlife no doubt noticed one of their own too. Keep the Rabbit travel stories coming. Phil :D

Just some thoughts, there is a test for combustion gases in coolant, Snap-On sells it. Any air bubbles coming into your overflow tank should be suspect, if your coolant system is full with no trapped air. The rad cap controls the cooling system pressure, to increase the boiling point of the coolant....

I'll bet it really scats with that turbo. The air breather seems to be made for that spot too. Note the fuel filter location. I'm not a dog lover but I can see that they are good protection against coyotes. Phil :)

I've never had a problem with the longer 1.9 injectors, but deep sockets do vary inside. I use a 12 point 1 1/16" Craftsman socket from Sears. I have had to bend the return tubes in slightly to get the socket to slide over, but rarely. The injector by the aneroid (#2) is harder to get out with ...

Spare engine with no compression

My son's A1 engine in his Suzuki finally died. A friend gave me an A2 engine a couple of years ago and claimed it started and ran very well in his rusted out Jetta. Not sure how long it was sitting on a pallet before I got it. I put the A1 injectors in it and duraterms, after a couple of squirts of ...

Thanks for the replies. I might just price a new injector. I can save the 293 nozzles for my spare '93 1.9 engine which has the single stage injectors. Phil
