Empi part found

63 mm duct (not insulated) is made by EMPI and sold as "heater hose"

Home depot has nothing that resembles the original part or the EMPI heater hose.

Cool air intake duct source

My foam insulated air duct between the fender port and the hard plastic filter box pipe has disintegrated. The inner diameter of the old duct doesn't match the silver foil flex tubing available at my local parts store. Anyone have a source for this type of duct?

fix my odometer like my Audi

My odo stopped working about 4 years ago. It was intermittent then failed altogether. I have over 400k on the car (odo at 389k). I have no problems cracking open the odo to fix it. Anyone done this before on a mid 80s Golf? I did a fix on an 82 Audi 4000 where one of the gears split and started slip...

Yes, this car has the clear line between the filter and the pump. As a matter of fact I happened to see a lone bubble travelling along the hose (upwards from the pump towards the filter) when the engine was not running. I suspect that there should never be air in that line?

will update

I don't look at too many old diesel engine bays...but mine is pretty ugly. Seeing a small fuel leak will be a challenge. I usually resist wiping away the filth when working in there since it will likely contaminate the parts I am working on! Nevertheless, next I will check the fuse (when I find it) ...

fuse

I will check the fuse as this clearly would imitate old/bad plugs. If I recall correctly the fuse is under the hood ...will look for it now. Service manual says its on the relay panel but well hidden from my view. Looks like i need to take off the lower dash panel to get to it. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Diagnose hard starting n/a diesel

I have a 1985.5 Golf daily driver that always starts...until now. Several days ago when I tried to start the engine, it fired once, then only turned over (no hint of firing). In a panic I immediately stopped trying to start it afraid that the timing belt had snapped (it needs a new one). I examined ...
