Re: Head bolts final torquing. The final 1/4 turn.

all I can say is whenever I have to do a head gasket I'm getting studs. these stretch bolts would rack my nerves far to much. Me too. I did a micrometer measurement last time and it was so very close to bottoming out the new bolts It had me worried how much room I had. So far so good...But next tim...

Re: Keyed power source (for stereo, gauge bulbs, etc)

I have wondered about that too. There are a few times when I just turn on the ignition , then let the glow plugs relay shut off and listen to the radio.....I cant think of any source other then the glow plugs that use the "ignition on" key setting that would excessively drain the battery e...

Re: Wheel bolts & hubs/drums. Breaking & stripping. Soluti

I cant help you there but I do like you and mount my own rims. I do use anti-seize on the threads though. Bolts are bolts and will only take so much stress before they give, New bolts are never a mistake but lug bolts shouldn't be breaking all too often.
I have yet to have a lug bolt break anyways.

Re: Fuel filter change intereval

Yeah, someone should search the term vacuum gauge and post the link. Instead of expecting someone else to do it. Very helpful people on here, sometimes it makes us too lazy to do a search. Did a search yesterday and periodically in the past onsite and off site and i couldnt find anything of a how t...

Re: Another pump re-seal question

Thanks Carlos..Yes, I see the pic at the end. I think what I`ll do is just loosen the output head and use a pick to R&R the oring then do the top cover last. I`m a competent mechanic but I dont want to mess anything up or delay the job because it is my daily driver and cant have it down for too ...

Re: Another pump re-seal question

Thanks..Yes..I have the link to a thread on the assembly and it says he had to take the output head back off to get the top cover on. I`m sure my terminology on the parts is wrong The head I`m calling is the part where the injector lines bolt to, and the top cover Is the throttle body area. Anyways ...

Re: Fuel filter change intereval

Buy them by the dozen..They are cheaper that way..I think I change mine every 20K or so..It always runs the same and I cant see them getting that contaminated after 7500 miles but maybe i`m wrong..I would like a link to a vacuum gauge adapter thingy too.

Another pump re-seal question

Hi guys, I plan on pulling my pump and doing a total re-seal , about every rubber seal is leaking but it still runs like a top so I don't want to completely tear it down even though I have the kit. My question concern`s the top cover and the rear output head. The assembly I seen was that the top cov...

Re: New bee here...Need a little guidance

Congrats on the 79' purchase. I also have a 79' 4 door. It came with the 1.5 and the GC 4 speed. The GC 4 speed is an around town transmission , If you have it you will find it wound out at 65MPH but it really makes the car quicker around town. I ended up putting a GP in it for better milage on the ...

It is on the fuse panel, don't ask me witch one though. I know it makes an audible click when engaged and disengaged.

Re: 83 Rabbit 1.6 Diesel (Broken Timing Belt)

I have heard some lucky stories of broken belts and no damage so if it is all together you may just want to put a belt on Timing it of course and see if it runs, If it runs terrible then double check the timing again and do a compression test to see if it has low compression. That way you know befor...

Clutch push rod R&R with trans. in???

Something I should have done the last clutch job but Is it possible to lower the trans down and slip out the old and install the new? I see the new ones have a taper that may be able to slip through the seal without disturbing the seal position.
What do you guys think?

Re: Drive flange spring missing??

I guess they are different. I found out my 4 spd uses a smaller diameter seal as well it does not use the spring behind the hub. Well that's another lesson learned .

Re: Drive flange spring missing??

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have said what I was working on. It is a 020 GP 4 Spd.
I was mainly concerned that using a spring on one side only (if there is not one on the other side) may put uneven pressure inside the transmission.
