Thanks! I unplugged the MAF sensor, and it didn't exactly go faster - maybe a bit, not sure - but it got rid of the intermittent power surges. Hard to say if that's a positive ID or not.

If I know a place with the software though, they can check this for definite, right?

Thanks Coke - I took it back to the car trader I bought it from, and they sorted it out. Apparently the linkage was badly worn. The problem is gone, and the gear change actually is much improved too.

Hi- Driving home last night in really awful weather on a freeway - rain, wind, spray, the works - the car started to lose power intermittently. Problem with transmission on Golf TDI

This is not TDI specific, so maybe I'd be better in the other forum? The question is regarding out newly acquired 2000 Golf TDI (90hp) w/ 50,000 miles on the clock (full VW history).
