Re: Tires
I have them on my 99 TDI and have just about wore them out. I was thinking of buying some more. I quickly found out they are a premium tire with price that matches. I bought some cheap snow tires in the past. They just don't compare to the Toyo. They just seems to drive smoother, quieter, and corner...

Re: Arduino development board
I've installed linx on three computers so far. I can't write any code so I would think just about anybody can do it. You first have to go into your computer change it so it will boot from a usb. Then you load the a boot program and linx program you want to run. Mint is the more like Windows that any...

Re: Possible engine swaps
You could stick a 1.6 into a MK3. I'm pretty sure it will bolt to the 02A tranny. I live in to Great White North and most of the 1.9's that I've come across have crank key problems. Their is a fix for it if it hasn't been ratched already.

The Italian designed Mk II Golf got be to one of the most beautiful thinks on the planet. This one is done up right. Nothink goddy. I see a lot of walking from the far end of parking lots in your future and maybe a good alarm system.

Re: KevinS'S Golf Mark II TDI build.
Looks like your swapping in a ahu. How about the instrument cluster and wiring harness. That's the part I find a bit of a challenge to say the least. I've always dreamed about a Passat Estate wagon ahu swap. I have the donor car all I need is 2000 hours or more to do it. Oh ya I forgot about a wagon.

From what I've read. 5w-30 is only good in the cold winter. Not suppose to be good when things warm-up. People north of the 60 parallel use it alot. I like 0w-40, 5w-40, and 15-40. I'm right on the 49th parallel. I believe this is in the Bentley.

Re: Alternator Pulley Question
I use to own the same car. The most I could get out of those pulleys was about 80,000km and very pricey with no after market parts. The problem pulley has a large diameter bearing with a very narrow race. Their should be another pulley behind it that is fix to the shaft. The problem pulley is an idl...

Re: pulling a windshield
I believe the pro's use a small sawall tool that has a blade that heats up. If you could rent or borrow one you would be away to the races. There are a few other tools available that can help. A wire saw that didn't work for me and curve knife blades tools. There's always the messy away to go. Hamme...

Re: 1996 passat dash clustet
You need a wiring diagram like the Bentley provides. My guess would be the voltage regultor in the clustor circuit. If these clustors are the same as the older ones. Fuel and temp. gauges need voltage regulator because they get there readings from the change in resistance of sending units. Signal li...

Did you put 30% cross hatching on the entire bore to stop the rings from spinning and lining the gaps up. Did you mic the entire lenght of the bore. I always try for at lest 2 or 3 ten thousands of an inch tolerance. This is not as hard as it sounds it's quit doable with practice. I've never tryed i...

Re: 5 speed trans for 1.6na
I think I have what you're looking for. ASF with 5th gear swap. I also have a AGS AND ACH. I talked about the swap in a earlier thread below. I did the 5th gear swap on a gas tranny (ASF) which has lowest final drive. I think I lost about 20% of my power in 5th but it's worth it to me to get 5-7% be...

Do some figure 8's in a parking lot or field with the windows down to see if you can hear which one it is. I usually take the brake calliper off to check for play.

I guess I forgot to put the turbo hose clamp on the hose that goes from the turbo to the inter-cooler back on. Broke the piping apart to get at bolts holding the heater core duckeding when I replace the heater core. What a mess. It blew out 3 quarts of oil. I think it did anyway. Can't find any othe...

Heater Core
The heater core went on my mk3 99 tdi. This is a big job. The whole dash and frame that holds it has to come out. Lost track off how many hours it took me. Their's about 7 bolts on the firewall that hold the dash and heater core duckeding on. I found the one on the drivers side under wiper rod a cha...
