Don't have to advertise the TDIs.

Emission regs limit the number of TDIs that can be sold in a year, and VW sells there entire allotment at sticker price, if not more.

Advertising is to get people to buy what you couldn't otherwise sell.

Mechanical pump for TDI engine

Jack I see that vwdieselparts.com is offering a mechanical injection pump for people that want to run the TDI engines without the wiring, ECM, immobilizer issues, etc. I had some questions, and since there are probably other folks with the same questions, I figured I'd ask in an open forum. I assume...

Looking for vane type (tuna can) vacuum pump from one of the later 1.6L engines.

There is a link to " TDI engine CAD drawing (PDF) " at www.haywood-sullivan.com/vanagon/TDI that shows the VW engine trans end bolt pattern. If you want to mate to a 2.8L V6 bell housing there was a drawing of that bolt pattern at www.60degreev6.com The post was in the transmission section...

Wow. sounds like you are out in front of me already. I'm using a bell housing from a Chevy S-10 with 2.8 V6 engine, and a plate between the VW engine block and the S-10 bell. That bell just clears the water outlet on the end of the cylinder head, the bigger SB Chevy and Ford 5.0L V8 bolt pattern bel...

You really need to use the link in veggy ben's post to Mr.Dave's thread where he installed a TDI in a Rabbit pickup. Great series of threads. My take away was that the mechanical part was easy, it was the wiring for the TDI electronic controlled pump, the ECU, the immolibilizer, and the instrument c...

As been told more than once, the trans end bolt pattern is the same on all VW four cylinder engines from the 70s Rabbit/Golf I to the newest 2.0 and 1.8T gas and 2.0L PD diesels. I am also working on adapting to a T-5 trans for my RWD project. If you are interested, PM me and I can share some of wha...

Continued. Remember that if you clean the glow plug harness contact, and put it back together, even if you are successful, the CEL will not go out by itself immediately. The system hold the code for weeks, you need to go in and reset the system with a VAGCOM to clear the CEL. Some guys just pull the...

I too have a 2001 New Beetle TDI. A check engine light (CEL) from problems with the glow plug circuit is a common problem. I have had it myself. You should go to tdiclub.com and look at the posts in the A4 Chassis general maintenance forum, starting fall of 2003 to spring of 2004, we have pretty wel...

Another place to look is vwvortex.com in the technical section they have a hybrid / swap forum. Go back to the fall of 2003 and the spring of 2004 and look at the multiple posts from "Mr.Dave" who put a TDI (with the full electronic computer control) in his Rabbit (A1) truck. Like all comp...

I have a 2001 New Beetle TDI with auto trans and get an honest 41 MPG (US gallons) in mixed city and highway driving. If I believe what the other guys are saying, the 5 speed manual TDIs get about 45 MPG or so in similar driving. Either way a whole lot better than the wife's Explorer Sport Trac or d...

Unlike the older VW diesels, on the TDIs the connection from the glow plug harness to the glow plugs is only a push on terminal, a lot like a spark plug wire on most cars. A little bit of trouble with the connection at this point will throw the check engine light (CEL). You might want to go over to ...

Only the 1996 and 1997 B4 series Passats have the diesel engine option. In 1998 that changed to the new B5 chassis that does not offer a diesel in the US. All the TDIs have intercoolers. The Passat TDI use the same long block as the 1998 to 1999.5 Jettas. This is a diiferent long block than the A4 c...
