Re: Ac delete golf mk2 1.6td

There is no keyway in the pulley I used, so I had to leave the key out on the alternator shaft. Either that or notch out a keyway in the pulley, which I don't think is worth it.

Re: Ac delete golf mk2 1.6td

The pulley alignment is relatively easy. I did remove a spacer behind the alt fan.
Btw, there is no keyway in that pulley but it seems to hold just fine. Using a air impact really helps.

Re: Ac delete golf mk2 1.6td

Keep in mind, my setup isn't running yet... there are more proven methods out there, somewhere. I began guessing based on what I could find and following my inner cheapness. So as usual, I was wrong a lot. This is how I started - got a GP-688 ford pulley and a mk1 adjuster bracket from ebay trying t...

Re: Ac delete golf mk2 1.6td

i've been messing with a non-turbo a/c delete in my spare time on a 86' mk2... problem is I did it with the radiator out. The real problem is the alternator being too close the radiator hoses. I bought a pulley off ebay for ford that fits well, got a mk1 adjuster bracket (long) and tightened it from...

Re: Would thinner motor oil help winter starting?

clean all your battery and ground connections
I replaced a battery terminal that looked ok but the new one actually made a much better connection.

Of course thinner oil is better in cold conditions or you could just get a bigger battery or a block heater.

Re: IP timing 91 jetta na

Most people say more advance is better

Whenever you find the time read the thread in the faq about internal fuel pressure. Good (balanced) injectors and proper fuel pressure is important for fuel economy. Fuel pressure has a big effect on actual timing when the engine is running

Re: Fuel Separation Systems

Just my opinion, but I think the stock vw filter is pretty good size for such a small engine. Fuel line restrictions and loose connections are the main causes of air bubbles. Particles are usually rust from the tank - if it's real bad just replace the tank cause it will just keep clogging stuff up. ...

Re: New Thermostat/Temperature Question

Seems like some aftermarket thermostats these days run hotter than their rated termp. I've had to return them before because they ran way too hot for me. It's worth noting when the electric fan is coming on because that is also a set temp. If that thing is coming on all the time, it's running too ho...

Re: Remind Me, Please! Re-entering the VW Diesel World Again.

Compression Test - Harbor Fright sells a cheap one, I know it works for the injector hole but I don't know if it has the glow plug adapter

You might even be able to "borrow" one from the autoparts store

Re: Remind Me, Please! Re-entering the VW Diesel World Again.

I remember taking one up to 80 pretty easy. Clear fuel lines (even just temporary vinyl ones from home depot) will tell you if air bubbles are going into the IP and messing up youir fuel pressure. Normally, ou should see some black smoke if you floor it to a high rev. After you get your fuel delive...

Re: internal injection pump pressure

I had to put back some of the washers/shims in the timer piston spring after increasing the fuel pressure in my injection pump (old 107A). I've read the timer spring does get a little softer over the years and increasing fuel pressure can cause too much advance. Good thing the washers (or shims) are...

Re: leaking IP at head - will this O-ring fit 86 1.6 NA?

the 1.6 IDI kit only costs a few dollars more and.... you might get more leaks later and end up needing the other seals.
Those old seals probably all need replacing.

Re: oil pressure concern

Oil pump is brand spanking new. Is low oil pressure why you got a new oil pump? I've read about a seal 068 145 117 B (dealer item) that goes at the bottom of the vacuum pump that can affect oil pressure some, relief valve in the oil pump being stuck open from debris can affect it alot, oil pickup c...
