I got mine at the hardware store. The first try, the wall was too thin and it collapsed after a few months. Thicker wall hose still working fine after 2 years. (edit)

why does the vacuum pump pressurize the block ?

I rebuilt my vacuum pump over the weekend and when I put it back in I forgot to attach the hose that goes to the block. I drove 5 miles before realizingit. lots of oily smoke, someoil on the block, but the dipstick level hardly went down at all. Where in the block does this hose go and why?

Is that black washer-looking thing holding the pump to the tank? Can it be cut apart to get the pump out? You should be able to twist the pump. Lube around that stuck grommet or whatever it is and if you can't pull it out, cut it out. I'd hesitate to reassemble a pump in place with possibly non-iden...

I had the same problem on my caddy. Lots of places sold the pump, but I couldn't find a caddy reservoir at all. (WHy is the caddy tank different?) My original pump was about a finger in diameter where it went into the tank, but the replacement was the size of a pencil. The new pump also mounted 90 d...

I have a 12mm head on an 11mm block. I used regular 11mm headbolts when I did the headgasket almost 30k miles ago. so far, so good.

Sorry, I didn't see that you already had the block tapped to 12 mm. I would grind off the ends of the 12 mm bolts or studs. someone on here can tell you how much gap there should be at the bottom of the bolt hole. I've read on this forum about people cracking their blocks at the bolt holes because t...

Now that i try to recall, the brass tubing may have been helpful with alignment. I don't remember if there was any slop side to side with or without the brass tubes. The only "pressure to go deeper" would be at the machine shop, right? Seems easy to resist by staying home and using 11 mm b...

I think the clamping force of ten fat bolts creates enough friction to keep the head from sliding around. I don't think the bolts are subject to much shear. Are either the head or block new or have you been driving on them together already? (I see that I misread a post about water passages)

When i did my head gaket 15,000 miles ago I found out I have a 12 mm head on an 11 mm block. So far, so good. No overheating issues so i assume the coolant flow is ok. I used new 11 mm bolts from Jack, but the elevens are reuseable. I posted that I put thin brass tubing around the bolts, but it didn...

just to be sure you're not misinterpreting "down", reverse is- 1) towards the floor, 2) towards your leg, 3) towards the dash.

windshield replacement

I'm replacing the windshield gasket too and i have a few questions. I have those teeth on top and down the pillars, but not on the bottom, so the bottom is much thinner, 1/16 inch vs. 1/4 inch teeth. is this normal ? Second, the gasket doesn't need caulk or anything to be watertight, right ? And doe...
