No I didn't but in hindsight that probably would have made it easier.

Well I finally got the #$%^ belt on but I had to have an assistant ( aka wifey) hold the crank while I wrestled the belt on.

I did chase the holes with a tap and put the studs in finger tight.
So I take it you had no ill effects when that happened to you on your head? I REALLY dont want to take the head back apart!
