Re: Turn signals not working.

Is the blinker is on when the green indicator is on? Just not blinking?
That would scream relay

Mediocre crank

Crank on jetta seems weak but im not sure if its due to the starter or if its just that i reringed engine and am used to cranking through less compression. Starter is old. Definitely replacing bushing in trans case. Do these motors tend to weaken over time? Im debating replacing starter but dont wan...

Injector housing

Are turbo injectors just shimmed differently to increase breaking pressure? Same spring? Housing?
Probably replacing nozzles and was gonna replace the back part of the housing (the part with the return barbs) with one from a non turbo. Same, right?
Just want to make sure

Re: Turn signals not working.

With engine off, key in "run", you should be able to hear relay clicking, or not, and tell which side of the relay the problem is. I think it could still it could still be the relay. I would think hazards and turn signals would use different parts of it. In my mk 2s, all the contacts in th...

Curious... i get why the head has to be bent into specs... but why at that point, wouldn't you resurface it?

Re: clutching at life

Thanks.. feels better knowing its not just me. The same things threw me off. Bentley calls for i think 3 mm of play in the cable which i wrongly thought refers to the bottom position of operating lever.... 3 mm from hard resistance of actually pushing the push rod. Also, return pressure comes from p...

Re: Oil pouring out of valve cover

I wouldnt think so. I use the cork and get a couple reuses by using copper spray and going a little tighter each time. Do you have the big washers installed? Did any of the little studs on the head spin loose? Ive had a couple do that. Other than that i would just suspect the condition of valve cove...

Re: clutching at life

Turns out the problem was much more in my mind than the jetta. ... had some misconceptions leading me to misunderstand where the operating lever should sit... how hard it should be to push in the pressure plate... where the push rod should sit etc..... see where I'm going? I had the clutch cable adj...

Re: clutching at life

I think I was fine on oil. will top off when done I took off the cap in my parts car (which the golf has become) and things looked similar. the push rod was in abou...

Re: clutching at life

Thanks. The operating lever goes up and down by hand very easily too easily, all the while not disengaging the tranny. doesn't feel like I'm moving the push rod at all in any way. makes me think there's a problem with that finger or spring or the finger is not catching the push rod or something that...

please help I just finished replacing clutch (pressure plate, friction disc, release plate..... stuff from clutch kit) in the jetta. The original symptom was extreme slipping, to the extent of barely getting home, then not even being able to drive the car around my place to where I wanted to work on...

Re: Head bolt head stud torque discrepancy

I used the same studs on my caddy and went with the higher torque specs that came with the studs. got a good seal and no problems. At the time, i think I went this way because I had a thicker, three notch gasket and a less than perfect mating surface on the block. another possible account of the dif...

Re: Play in Vacuum Pump shaft

If the play your talking about involves rotating the pump shaft and having the gear not engage until you turn it a little, thats normal. Theres room where the shaft engages with the gear so that the vacuum pump can slide in and engage without being in one exact position

Re: 83 Turbo Rabbit, Ignition wont engage starter.

I had my ignition fail in a tricky way. It would turn over fine, and once it caught it would run fine. But sometimes it wouldnt fire up, and this got worse over time. Turns out that WHILE the key was turned to START, the solenoid wasn't getting power. Don't worry about this. This is a "crank b...
