perhaps the stat was in backwards? Also, cool (as in not at operting temp) engines run inefficiently. Sounds like the stat was either malfunctioning or in backwards to me..

yea, that is for a model whose block was tapped, not pan.. weird turbo too, like early tdi maybe?

well, I'm sort of against a wall with the diesel r&p swap.
I think it's quote alot of work. Maybe I'll just roll around with my diesel trans for a while and see what I think.. The up side is I just found out my td block has only .030 ring end gap, almost new!!

obviously, if i could find a junked water cooled trans, I could save a few bucks, as long as I was willing to invest the time. Also, saves the hassle of buyinga trans to find out once its in, that its junk...

hmm, that almost looks like an uphill run... Would those of us thinking of tapping the pan want to try to retain the original return location or try a different spot?

No problem libbypapa, Obviously I can still mount it in stock location. I noticed that the k14 I have (I didnt even realize that was what I ordered when I got my german td vanagon setup) has fittings on inlet and return. This should make it much easier to plumb the return line because I wont have to...
