The pressure drop from positive pressure in the crank vent tube to negative pressure in the intake hose from filter to turbo can cause freezing of water vapor (like the low pressure side of the A/C system) and those ice crystals can erode your compresso...

If cold starts were hard and it lacked a little power, then it sounds like you had the injection pump 180° out (could be internal to the pump). With it 180° out, it will start and run, but be smokey and clattery all the time.

I'm not sure if all the seals in the Bosch kit are viton or even why you are wanting them to be, but the Bosch kit is top quality and every seal in it is rated for use with all of the diesel fuel formulations including biodiesel and they all have been since the mid-90s.
