Re: Smoke from valve cover and dip stick

Just realized that I put 10w40 oil for a gas engine in at my last oil change. Do you think this could be causing the smoke? I didn't notice the smoke before the oil change but I wasn't paying attention to it either. Should I expect other issues to arise from putting the wrong oil in? I have driven i...

Smoke from valve cover and dip stick

I am getting quite a bit of white smoke from the oil cap on my valve cover and from the dip stick tube when I pull the stick out. Is this something to worry about? Its an 81 rabbit with around 180k on the engine. Starts and runs well, has power - no noticeable issues. Doesn't seem to be burning oil....

Re: Rabbit Stalled a few times - now won't start

Has anyone tried/thought about replacing the under-the-hood fuel filter set up with an in-line universal filter(s)?

I am considering this as a cost saving option and because the vw filter is available locally.

Re: Rabbit Stalled a few times - now won't start

I am having a hard time finding the 3.5mm clear fuel lines. Do they need to be any certain material, or will anything work?

If you can bottle-feed it and drive it, you can validate/invalidate the fuel-filter & lines.

So, I should take the line off that feeds the IP and put in in a bottle of diesel?

Rabbit Stalled a few times - now won't start

My 81 rabbit was had been running well for the most part until it stalled while accelerating up a slight hill. It lost power while driving and and the rpms slowed way down until it was running really ruff and then stalled. The first two times this happened it started right back up without a problem ...

Can't retard my IP timing enough

I have an 81 rabbit 1.6 and I recently took the IP off to replace the o-ring on the water pump inlet. I have put her all back together and it starts and runs but rattles pretty bad. I have rotated the IP counterclockwise as far as it will go and it makes the rattle better, but I cant get it to go aw...
