Re: Nomal Oil Pressure???

bscutt wrote:I'd say those are decent readings. Is the sensor at the head or at the oil filter?
Sensor is in the head.

How do the readings near the filter compare, generally speaking??

Nomal Oil Pressure???

1991 Jetta, MK2, non-turbo, 5 speed, 290,000 miles, original owner I just installed a VDO oil pressure gauge, 0-80 psi range. I'd like to know if my readings are within the norm or not. No work has ever been done to the block components, save for a cooling system rebuild, injection pump and injector...

Re: Brake Symptoms

Tyler,
Sounds pretty much the same as mine.......not going to worry about it.

Pretty hard to tell if the one-way valve near the vacuum pump or the booster diaphragm might be leaking........I think I'm ok for now.

Thanks

What is Normal Oil Pressure???

1991 MK2 1.6 diesel, non-turbo.......

What is normal running oil pressure??

Would an 80 psi gauge be appropriate????

Location is the Pacific Northwest, USA for temperature reference.....

Re: Brake Symptoms

I found that when I replaced my master cylinder that the seal in the booster was wet and dirty so I cleaned that before reinstalling the new MC. Vacuum has been much better since then, leading me to believe it was leaking around the pushrod seal. Might be worth checking that area and you can someti...

Like Quantum_man mentioned; Those vane pumps are effected by oil pressure.
NO. Been meaning to install a gauge soon.

What is the normal oil pressure for the 1991 MK2 1.6 non-turbo engine???

Would an 80 psi gauge do the trick????

Re: Brake Symptoms

If your engine has a lot of blowby, the output of the vane style pump pushes the air into the crankcase to create the vacuum. If you have high block pressures, this can deminish the braking system over several attempts at moving the pedal. Do you have a lot of air coming out of the valve cover if y...

Re: Brake Symptoms

I would check the vacuum as you repeatedly use the pedal (while engine running)... see if it drops. Tyler, Idling, I get about 29 inches of vacuum. Pumping the pedal 5-6 times progressively with engine running reduces the vacuum to about 5 inches (correction ). It returns to 29 inches in about 30 (...

Brake Symptoms

Pumping the brake pedal frequently, say 3 or 4 times in 5 seconds, when coming to a stop from high or low speed, I notice that the pedal gets harder to depress, seems to have less stroke and the braking effectiveness diminishes quite a lot with each pedal push. It seems that if I then lay off of the...

Re: Hot/Cold Compression Test Engine Temp??

I removed mine all at once - makes the starter crank faster. As for temp it's hard to do this with the engine truly hot and not get burned but if you do it within 30 minutes of driving (warm weather of course) it should still be warm enough to get a good "hot" reading. Is there any issue ...

Hot/Cold Compression Test Engine Temp??

Regarding the "hot" compression test............ My head temp checks out at, say, 165 degrees F(using an infrared thermometer) when I stop the engine in my driveway. The shop replaced rebuilt injectors using the copper Permatex anti-sieze compound. I can see it oozing a little around the i...

Re: To Pre-Heat or Not?, That is the Question.

Kind of what I suspected.............. I've been doing it religiously for 290,000 miles since new in 1991. The oil pan heater looks interesting as I have wondered if the oil gets any heat from the block heater.....heat moves from hot to cold so I guess it would have to slither through the oil pan in...

To Pre-Heat or Not?, That is the Question.

A diesel tech told me that heating the engine with a block heater could aggravate or cause or accelerate some sort of galvanic or electrolytic corrosion within the engine. He recommended not doing it unless the temperature is really cold. Just to be clear, this is the type of heater that fits into o...

Pump Timing Orientation Primer

1991 MK2 ME diesel, NA Bosch VE Pump Is this correct: "Advance" the timing, means the fuel injects sooner and "retard" the timing means the fuel injects later????? Which direction is the pump rotated to advance or retard the timing? With limits of, say, 0.83 to 0.97 mm, which end...

Re: Low Compression Repair Procedure????

The compression check will tell a lot. The shop got 400, 400, 360, 460(1 through4) a few weeks ago. They said the low one could just be carbon and advised to drive it and check again later.....which I intend to do myself. I'm also doing a mileage and oil consumption test. It doesn't seem to be leaki...
