I'm going tomorrow to have an exhaust made up. Currently when I let off the throttle for gear changes, the turbo whines like a pack of wolves howling. It really scared me the first time. I thought something was about to blow up! I'm hoping that the exhaust will muffle that sound. I am getting a lot ...

I've got the non-metal head gasket. I unfortunately only learned about the metal one after I had torqued down the head. While non-intercooled I'll keep the boost lower to save the head gasket. Is there some indication that I'm reaching maximum safe boost since I don't have the gauge? Maybe it's the ...

Thanks. It's still a bit of a tip in there. Tools and spare parts all over. I even got a warning from a city bylaw enforcement officer a few weeks ago that I wasn't allowed to store a non-running vehicle on the "boulevard." My parking place is technically on city property, which runs up to...

It lives!

Today I finished my ABS and cone filter intake, wired up a push button for the glow plugs and fired up the van for it's second time ever. It started really easily this time and idles beautifully. As we pulled around the corner for it's maiden voyage as a TD I heard a terrible creaking/clanking sound...

The intake tube to the turbo on my MF engine comes off the left side of the engine and runs across the width of the engine compartment (in the jetta setup.) Did you splice into that jetta part or did you just make a u-bend from the turbo and head towards the tranny with ABS tees for the BOV and head...

1.6 TD air intake

I started my van today for the first time with it's new engine. What a glorious sound. I had to shut it down right away as I have yet no air intake figured out. I Tried to cobble various plumbing parts to the jetta intake tube with the hoses to the BOV and the rebreather, but everything points in to...

My AAZ Golf, for the first two tanks, (my first diesel,) got only 30mpg and 31 mpg. I was really disappointed. It was about 3/4 highway averaging 120 to 130kph. That's 75-80mph. Kinda fast to be getting smileage but still seems pretty poor. Is this what I should be expecting? Does the 1.9 use that m...

The circumference of the tread is calculated C=pi D. The circumference will shrink by 1.5" over the life of the tire, as the tread diameter wears from 23" to 22.5" That's nearly two percent. The odometer is going to run 2% faster by the time you change your tires. The speedometer will...

I'm starting my WVO conversion next month and finally all three vehicles will be diesel/WVO. Looking for creative tank ideas if you've got any! :) Reiney At first I thought I'd use a syncro tank for the WVO, but then I found out the price for one of them. Now i'm thinking of a round tank in the spa...

Sorry, no scanner. My Bentley (c)1991, shows in the wiring diagrams, wbx - p97.56, current track 29, OIL PRESSURE SW (1.8 bar) diesel - p97.43, current track 29, OIL PRESSURE SW (1.8 bar) Now you've got me looking, In chapter 17 LUBRICATION SYSTEM it clearly states that in checking the pressure swit...

I'm confused. Why does the bentley list the sole oil pressure switch for the vanagon diesel as well as the 1.9 wbx as 1.8 bar?

Although I may increase boost as I get to know the engine, I am not looking to create a hot rod  from my westy laden with wife, kids, dog and cast iron cookware. I also don't want to risk blowing my head gasket. I'm interested in reliability and efficiency rather than performance. Thanks for th...

Yes. The K03 is from an AAZ. Does the smaller turbo work better at low rpms because there is less mass to get spinning? So the tradeoff would be less boost at highway speed.

At highway speed, does the size of the turbo affect fuel efficiency?

Which turbo?

I have read many posts on this and other sites stating that the K24 turbo has to much spool up time for a vanagon and that I will not get any boost on hills as I shift gears. Many of you have recommended using a smaller K14 or T3 turbo instead. I don't have one of those. What I do have is a K3. It's...
