Re: Glow plug relay socket PN?
Starts like a dream! I made a little astable timer that turns an led off after 5sec so I don't have to count in my head; leave them on a little longer for cold mornings and a little less for warm day starts. So far so good so we will see how the winter goes. I never actually found the connectors, wh...

Re: Glow plug relay socket PN?
Well it turns out the socket is a stock universal socket for VW, and the harness going into it can be made with some special spade terminals.
So this morning I got a 50amp starter solenoid and made a nice manual system.

Glow plug relay socket PN?
So I've been fighting with my glow plug relay... No start or rough start, but the LED is on (I know it doesn't mean anything) if I short the plugs to the battery she will start right up. Thought it was a bad relay so I replaced with a new one; still no improvement. The fuse is still good, and so is ...

Re: Newbie to the Van!
Well it's been a while but I think time for an update! The van is running like a champ, and today I am about to embark on a road-trip from Philadelphia to Seattle to move myself out to a new job! My girlfriend will be making the trip too :D It goes without saying that without the support from you gu...

Re: Popping out of 1st-
The pulsing follows the speed of the van as if it's in the rotor/ wheel assembly. Would a vacuum issue cause the same pulsing?
I've got the dash apart so I'll check the booster connection and pump tonight.
thanks for the idea

Popping out of 1st-
I have been loving my new van; camping with the honey in this lovely summer! Now that the engine is running like a champ I should check out a couple of problems that have been ever-present. 1st- It's always popped out if 1st gear when the speed of the trans and the speed of the engine are off. Examp...

Re: Fuel line failures
Ok well new head and piston are on the pump and the pump is in the van and HOLDING prime! So things are looking good so far. Only issues I'm having are with starting and the RPMs hanging slightly. It takes about 5-8sec to get it to fire (sometimes 2 tries) where as before it would fire right up. Is ...

Re: Fuel line failures
Ya I'm a little puzzled by how it happened too. Best guess so far was the governor pin rotated the collar and when I torqued the top on it was still at an angle and snapped.
I also have tracked down a couple of head units with pins and some old pumps thanks to the community

Re: Fuel line failures
the pin was lined up; I opened it carefully to see if I had lined the pin up right to begin with so I don't think that could have done it. It looks like a shear fracture rather then a radial so I'm thinking the governor pin may not have been seated right and when I put the top on it pushed down on t...

Re: Fuel line failures
and to make things even better it looks like the only guy on ebay who has one it proth! hmmm... I got a good timing dial gauge and adapter from him as well as a compression tester. they are cheep but work well; I know all the warnings about this guy but if it's the piston I have to believe its a gen...

Re: Fuel line failures
ARRRGGGG!!! Braved the storms today to install my IP and after it was bolted in I put the sprocket on and found it wouldn't rotate! it would turn about 30deg or so and halfway through a pump it would hit something solid. changing the cold start would change where it hit but not much else would help....

Re: Fuel line failures
Yup figured that part out; I just kept thinking there was a key-way for the nubbin that was on camplate facing the rollers. Well last night wasn't able to get it installed; too stormy and I was more concerned with getting my new NMT run under van before it got too wet again. All the old wires were r...

Re: Fuel line failures
Well I got the 2 holes in the sprocket and I've actually just scribed a mark at 180 just incase You know I stared at that pic and my pump for what seemed like forever and couldn't see what that pin mates to! You say it should align with the keyway on the main shaft? Ok now I get it; it doesn't fit i...

Re: Fuel line failures
Well after pulling the pump apart last night I discovered the inside was covered with a pretty good layer of varnish. you can see in the main vain pump where the diesel purge had done it's trick, but you could tell it was half full when it sat for so long. There is a distinctive line at about 50 deg...
