Re: Hard start... where too next?

Ive had a good extra ground on a starter bolt this whole time. Think its a 6 or 8 gauge right to negative terminal, extra one to chassis too, and original one to the trans. Checked/ cleaned positive starter cable terminals at some point. Maybe ill try a different cable or look at the cable itself at...

Re: Hard start... where too next?

More like constant resistance where it should have turned easier. I think it could be a few things and probably in the engine. Even if whatever it is causes no other problems, the amount of energy needed to turn the engine probably explains the hard starts. I did my first ring job on this car about ...

Re: Hard start... where too next?

I removed the plunger from fuel solenoid. Ruled that out, same starts. Turning the engine by hand felt wrong. It seemed much too hard to turn between compressions. Some strokes felt ok. I was about to swap IP to see what happens but stopped when I felt that. Dont really like the look of things.

Re: Hard start... where too next?

I did compression test when i had the injectors out and got mid 300s to about 400 with cheap harbor freight tester that i think would read low if anything. When you say voltage to the pump you're talking about fuel solenoid, right? So far ive been at this 100% solo so i havent been able to do any te...

Re: Hard start... where too next?

15w40. Looks like i was probably wrong about the air. More shiybstarts/ no starts. Sometimes it starts fine and throws me off. Turbo basicaly works when running. Is there any possible fail that would cause air problems when starting or should i stop thinking about this? I definitely have blowby and ...

Re: Hard start... where too next?

Thanks, that was actually helpful. Newish air filter and i think i tried starting with the air filter off, but i got to thinking about air and i have an air intake problem. My other vws were all NA and this is the first turbo vehicle of any kind ive had. I get the basic idea of turbos but im a turbo...

Hard start... where too next?

Jetta started starting real hard about a week ago, as in barely making it on its own battery or needing a jump. Ive been tooling with this for a while and im not sure where to go next. It had been starting hard and i got through the winter mostly with my truck, then when it got warm enough for outdo...

Re: Block heater spot

Freeze plug hole water tight so far. Put in a new freeze plug with water weld epoxy on the damaged area of block, then went over whole area with one of those radiator/ fuel tank repair kits which consisted of fiberglass and some kind of thinner epoxy. Kinda hacky, we'll see. Katz in line heater 1640...

Re: Timing belt tensioner stud helicoil failure fix?

My pick up had that same hole threaded. I think its the combination of the aluminum and the terror of the tensioner slipping. In my case there were a few threads beyond what was stripped so i got a longer bolt and used removable threadlock.... then drove with slight anxiety for the rest of the vehic...

Re: Block heater spot

Well damn. No, i had not read that thread. For some reason i was thinking the in hose ones were less effective. If not, i see no reason to fight with freeze plugs and take a coolant bath.
Ill just put a plug back in and get a hose heater.
Thanks

Block heater spot

Every block heater ive seen has been in the second freeze plug hole from the belt side. Does anyone know if one would go in the next, third spot? I damaged normal freeze plug hole in a very stupid maneuver due to me rushing and needing the jetta to get to work the next day.... divot in it right wher...

Re: Turn signals not working.

I may have had the same fail, just didnt test the hazards. Golf stopped signaling, light and indicator would just stay on. Swapped relay, worked.
... after a few days of "manual" signaling
