Alternator
I going to replace my alternator on my 1986 Golf diesel and was going to buy an after market rebuilt one. Do I need a 90 amp or is a 65 amp good enough?

Weak or Dim Headlights
What would cause my headlights to be so dim? I actually have to get out of the car to see if they are on. Very weak headlights and tail lights. Waiting to get pulled over by a cop but have been lucky enough not to be driving atb night.

Re: Argh! the brake valve broke off
I rounded off my bleeder nipple trying to change out my brake fluid. Went to a pullapart junk yard and pulled two calibers off a a donor fot $10 each. Soaked them in parts cleaner and bought rebuild kits for about $20 each. Also bought a set of new speed bleeders to make doing the job easier next ti...

Re: WTB: Mk 1 console piece
I have the whole console that holds the three guages in black from a MKI. I was going to switch it out with my console for my MKII but the shifter hole is a different size square.

Re: Turn Signals not working?
Can I get abit more help in trackingdown my problem? If I follow the wire from fuse #13(turn signal fuse) where should it go to? I had a new stereo installed and then my turn signals stopped working. Do you think there may be a connection? As to the blinker switch is that in the turn signal arm? Whe...

Re: Turn Signals not working?
They fail to light and do not blink not even on the instrument panel. Emergency blinker works fine, and side light markers work too. The fuse for turn signals is #13 and it is fine . Traded it out just to verify that it is not the fuse. Blinkers always worked, maybe I lost a ground wire or somethtin...

Turn Signals not working?
My battery went dead and after charging it up I discovered my turn signals are not working. Never had a problem with them before. Checked fuse #13 and it was fine. 1986 Golf Diesel, any ideas or suggestions on where to look ? Next inspection is in October so I have a while to figure it out.

Wire under Shifter Console
I pulled out my center console and found a wire attached to the top of the transmission that is attached to nothing. Is this a ground wire or does it go to something that is not working? 1986 VW Diesel Golf made in America.

Re: Transmission Gear
Drained the gear oil for the third time and bought a flexible grabber with a light. Can not find the gear anywhere. I am giving up for now and just going to drive. I was told by a friend that rebuilds the trannies that he finds those gears in them alot, and they do not seem to cause any damage. I am...

Re: Transmission Gear
I put the after market gear on years ago and did not realize that there should have been a c-clip to hold it on so I am sure that I never installed it. The plastic gear is already chewed up but still in one piece. I almost had it out with a pair of needle nose but dropped it and it fell out of site....

Transmission Gear
Changed my transmission gear oil and my plastic speedometer gear fell into the transmission. I could see it for a while but it fell deep in front of the speedometer hole. Is there anyway I can take the front cover of the transmission off without removing thw whole tranny? I am going to try to fish i...

Re: Filling Transmission
Drained the transmission oil and was able to fill 2 quarts of Red Line M-90 synthetic through the fill hole using a hand pump. Do I still need to add .5L through the speedometer hole or is it a total volume of 2 liters to fill the tranny? Since a quart is less than a liter and if it takes 2 liters, ...
