Re: VERY Rough Running

Ill inspect fuel line unions. How did the injectors clear themselves? Did you just run it for a period of time? Maybe loosening the injector lines one by one to purge any existing air?

Re: VERY Rough Running

Now that i you mention it - the rattle/clanging/pinging i'm hearing could be similar to what i've heard before when loosening injector lines to bleed air. I haven't ever replaced or pump tested my injectors (50k miles of ownership), so they could be a prime suspect. I'll go through them and see if o...

VERY Rough Running

Hi all, i was hoping to get some diagnostic opinions before i start pulling the engine apart. My 89 1.6d Jetta started running incredibly rough towards the end of a 2 hour drive yesterday. There was a moderately loud metallic tapping coming from the engine area, the speed of which increased with hig...

Speedo Cable Leak?

Anyone ever had a leak in their speedo cable? I'm trying to solve a transmission leak (89 1.6d jetta standard trans), and it looks as it the leak is coming from around where the speedo cable enters the transmission. The rubber bushing under the metal cap is in fine shape, but the bolting system for ...

Re: Temp Gauge rising

It could be that the fan isn't coming on early enough, but i've never noticed the fan not being on when the engine is running hot. The water pump is only about 14000 miles old, but i'll check the belt. My idle is slightly high i think, i've never been able to exactly determine where it should be, bu...

Temp Gauge rising

Over the past few months, i've noticed my temp gauge has been rising higher than it used to when the engine is under heavier loads or is sitting in traffic. Since i've owned the car (3 years) it's always risen to maybe 2/3 during these times, but recently has been up to 3/4 or even 4/5th. For a whil...

Wheel bearings - how long have I got?

I've got what seems like the all the symptoms of a bad rear wheel bearing on the drivers side. Clicking at low speeds from that area when device straight or turning right, sound decreases with increase in speed. Its not incredibly loud, i can only hear it with the windows down, but its grown more no...

Re: Temperature light flashing at odd times

Does that connection provide information to the cooling system, such that if it eventually fails will cause me trouble? I assume that sender is different than that which controls the radiator fan?

Thanks

Temperature light flashing at odd times

Ive been on a long road trip, and recently my temperature light has been flashing intermittently when the A/C is on. It flashes just for a few seconds, then goes off. I'm curious if this is something I should be concerned about... It only happens when I'm running the a/c, and so the engine is runnin...

That's the culprit - thanks for passing along that thread, I didn't see it in my searches.

Mysterious water leak

I've noticed after the last few heavy rains there is a subanstial puddle of water in the drivers side back seat floor - and I can't figure out where it's coming from. All my foaming is pristine and in place, and open inspection there's no telltale moisture that would point to a particular place or e...

Re: Chirping from dash?

Yea the dash bolts could be a culprit - I just had the dash partway off to put a new blower motor in. Everytime I take out the dash I'm left with two to five screws that I have no clue where they could go. By now there's probably 1/5th of the standard assembly holding it together... Another thing ca...

Chirping from dash?

Ever since i bought my jetta, i've had intermittent squeaking come from the left side of my dash. Never too often, and never too loud, but just enough that i would love to do something about it. My cold start lever does chirp and squeak a little if not pushed in entirely, usually pushing it the rest...

Re: Electrical Trouble

Oddly enough - the symptoms have completely disappeared. It's been a week now and no problems at all. Nothing else has changed - is it possible that the little piece of brush lost in the alternator was causing the problems and finally wore away? That doesn't seem plausible but i can't think of anoth...
