Re: CV axle fail? torn boots, slight clicking
Set out to replace my axles today. Got the old ones out no problem, but while attempting to put the new PS axle in, the outer joint somehow fell apart. I've replaced axles before but never had anything like this happen ... maybe this is what they warn against in explaining how to prevent damage to t...

Re: CV axle fail? torn boots, slight clicking
If anything my car is a bit higher than most. Maybe bigger tires. I'll just go with the lifetime warranty big box axles. Knowing how to replace axles doesn't mean I enjoy doing it every few years.
Looking on the bright side, I guess it makes for a good time to do a more thorough inspection.

I'm actually in Philly now, but my dad's in Louisville and will be driving up to Philly in a few weeks. I could have him pick it up from you.
What's the part off of? A mk2 diesel? I know those systems changed since they were all after market US additions, right?

Re: CV axle fail? torn boots, slight clicking
yeah i might just replace them then. I've never seen boots that torn - not even with the previous axles which I replaced with these.
I guess you get what you pay for(?).

wtb: A/C condenser for mk2 85 diesel jetta.
With all the a/c deletions going on around here, I imagine SOMEONE would have to still have one of these lying around, right? I'd love to get my AC working again, but the tubes snapped on my condenser when I was attempting to open it up for an o-ring replacement. I'm not sure which MK2 condensers ar...

CV axle fail? torn boots, slight clicking
I installed these axles in fall of '09 and have put maybe 15k on them since then, maybe 20. Either way, the outer boots are both torn (pass side is completely torn apart) and when I do a sharp turn - a U on my street, for instance - I hear clicking. My main concern is how the boots could've failed s...

Re: Keyed power source (for stereo, gauge bulbs, etc)
My 85 has a brown and red wire going to the light - both of which were cut by a previous owner! I'll see if I can find those wires ... hopefully one of them is key powered.

Keyed power source (for stereo, gauge bulbs, etc)
As much electrical work as I've done on this car, I never quite figured out if there was a switched power source from the fuse box that I could safely tap into to run things like the car stereo only when the key is in the 'on' position. Should I just find a switched wire on the ignition switch harne...

SOLD: K14 Turbo & parts from EcoDiesel
SOLD A lot of you on this forum helped me get my 1.6L Diesel rebuilt and on the road running. When I was working on the project I had planned on turbo-ing it, but now that I've clocked 6000 miles on it in mixed city/highway conditions, I'd say I'm pretty darn happy with the 50hp it has! So, I decide...

Re: Serious mishap. Lost power on freeway and no start.
If you take the guys out of the solenoid wouldn't it continue running even if you turn the key off?
I've never had solenoid issues but I'm starting to thinking adding a spare solenoid in my travel box wouldn't be such a bad idea.

ever heard of anyone breaking a spring from overloading? that was my fear when I had my car packed to the brim (back seat and trunk) with heavy tools.

Re: Towing Long-distances with towbars + VW resources in Phi
Thanks for those tips on shops in Philly! I'm much like you - I probably won't be getting much done aside from alignment or diagnostics. I actually do need to get a second opinion on steering/suspension issues, so maybe I'll one of those places up. But yeah, at this point - esp after rebuilding the ...
