Replacing IP shaft seal
I tried searching the forum for this procedure but I must not be using the right words. I can't find the thread. I've read it before and trying to go from memory, but I'm not having much luck. I got a parts truck I'm trying to get the seal out of for practice before I tear into my daily driver. Mayb...

Re: Rear brakes dragging
Quantum-man, Yes it holds vacuum. I don't know if this problem existed before, this truck sat a long time and I changed the brakes while I was getting it up and running. Yes both sides are doing it, maybe passenger side a bit more. Yes I have slacked off the hand brake cable. So this might be my pro...

Rear brakes dragging
On the rear brakes on a 81 pickup I replaced the drums, shoes, and inner & outer bearings. I didn't replace wheel cylinders or any springs. The E brake cable is loose and has not been applied. There are times when the brakes are dragging, but not all the time. Mostly after it has been when drive...

Re: IP problems
Well I did get it running again. The throttle lever isn't on the exact spot it was before. I had to adjust idle screw way back. Not leaking for now. Is there a way to adjust max rpm screw without a tach? If I put the pedal to the floor and the lever isn't contacting the high rpm screw, will the rpm'...

Re: IP problems
Bscutt, Yes that is what happened, I didn't mark the shaft before I removed the throttle lever. I pulled the lever off again, and I'll be darned if I can get it back on again. Those springs are really messing with me. I looked at a couple of spare IP and moved the shaft were it looked like it should...

IP problems
Well today I noticed my IP was leaking around the top seal. So I thought I would try to tighten it up a bit to see if that would get me by for awhile. I pulled the throttle lever off and snugged up the 4 allen bolts. Put it all back together and now it won't start. It was leaking a lot all of the su...

Re: Brake lights issue
Well I finally figured out the problem. It was a combo of three things. First, the terminal A14 on the back of the fuse box had a bad connection. Second, terminal 50 on the starter solenoid was bad. Third, there was a funky bulb on driver's side rear. I can't believe I solved this puzzle. It's truly...

Re: Brake lights issue
There has to be an electrical connection to the flasher circuit at some point to energize the brake lights, but this should be after the brake light switch. That's if the Cabby has the same turn signals as the brake lights. Not sure if they are separate on the Cabby or not. The brake lights and bli...

Re: Brake lights issue
I still haven't solved this problem. I also don't have a working brake warning light, seat belt warning light and seat belt buzzer. Looking at the diagram these might be related. I'm really bad at this stuff. How can I test my seat belt relay?

Re: Brake lights issue
My '80 has 2 switch's. I pulled the fuss box and cleaned some terminals in back and now have juice to the light switch's. Tested both according to Bentley, I guess both are bad because I still have no brake lights. I ordered the 2 switch's today so I'll see what happens and post results.

Re: Brake lights issue
Well I did have a leak. Water was getting in around the antenna and flowing down the antenna wire to the inside. I'll look at the back of the fuss box and see what I can find. Thanks.

Re: Brake lights issue
Yes there is power on either side of fuse. No power to either side of switch. In the Bentley it looks like two hot wires going to the switch's? No relays that I can tell. From the back of the fuse box to the first switch there is only about 18'' of wire. Direct shot to master cylinder. I was thinkin...

Brake lights issue
1980 LX diesel truck has no brake lights. Did the brake light switch test in the Bentley manual with no results. No juice to stitches at any time. Fuse is good. I put a hot jumper wire to a direct wire to the lights and both came on. I'm at a loss. Any thoughts.

Re: Front wheel bearings
I wish I took a pic. I don't know if I can describe it well enough. It was the drivers side axle that I replaced with one I got at local auto parts store. I was in a hurry  This is on a 1980 Caddy. I put in a 1983 1.6 with 5-speed. During this process I had the original axle tided up. Well it g...

Re: Front wheel bearings
I didn't even think of that. I wasn't in the frame of mind that somebody might learn from me. I'm the one asking the dumb questions. From now on I will shoot pics of repairs. Thanks.
