Injection pump timing issues
First, what's this thing in the shaky circle? http://www.pbase.com/kneale_brownson/image/85895233/medium.jpg And what can I do to get it out of the way so I can use my dial gauge and 2066 tool to set the static timing on my injection pump. You can see how installation of the gauge to the tool is lim...

Thanks, Quantum, but none of my gauges has a slim enough stem to fit into the collet on the 2066 tool. Didn't even try to see if the extender matched the replaceable tip threads. I found a gauge that meets 2006 specs and is on its way to me. If you have too great a range, it becomes really difficult...

Anyone have a work-around for adjusting the pump without the 2066 tool? I redid the belt installation and made sure the crank and cam are OK, and now it's worse than before. No start at all that I can keep running. Doesn't look like I'll have an appropriate dial gauge for the 2066 tool any time in t...

Turns out none of the dial indicators I have on hand--and none available from today tool outlets in this town--will fit my 2066 tool. I foolishly purchased it without the indicator, figuring one of mine might work. Boy was I wrong. Anyone got an internet source for a dial indicator compatible with t...

Other real common case of sudden heavy smoke and surging is an acute air leak that is letting air into the fuel lines... can you see any bubbles in the clear sections of the fuel lines ? I don't/didn't see any bubbles in the clear lines. I looked specifically because I read somewhere about someone ...

So how would I tell this? Will there be more belt slop between the injection pump pulley and the tensioner than there is between the IP pulley and the camshaft pulley? Or would it be the other way around? I didn't notice that the injection pump pulley would move when the locker tool was inserted. So...

1.9 TD crank pulley wobble solved, but engine's unhappy
The pulley wobble that started me on the investigation of my new-to-me 1994 Jetta TD's timing belt has been cured, but the engine isn't running well and smokes a lot. After getting the crankshaft pulley off, I found it was in fine shape and the crankshaft itself was undamaged, so I guess the wobble ...

Thanks, Andrew. There's no room for any kind of three-arm puller I've seen when removing the cam pulley while the engine is in the car. I learned elsewhere that on the 1.9 TDs, the little hole in the rear timing belt cover near the top of the head is for inserting a small punch so you can tap on the...

Loosening crankshaft pulley on 1.9 TD
I got the crankshaft pulley bolt on my 1994 Jetta's 1.9 TD engine loose using this plate I made to lock the pulley: http://www.pbase.com/kneale_brownson/image/84828606.jpg But now I can't get the pulley loose. There's no room for a 3-arm puller, my injection pump pulley puller won't grab the cranksh...
