Re: Winding starter
When jumper cables go directly on positive post of the starter, and starter to bell housing bolt for negative, exact same thing happens. No better, no worse. No matter if source from rabbit's own battery or coming from a running 1 ton diesel with 2 batteries. :| Could it be something with the motor ...

Re: Winding starter
No voltage drop anywhere I can find. 12.99 volts before cranking. Voltage at starter the same. About 11.8 while cranking. The flywheel is catching I assume, but not enough. Turning slowly at first then not at all. Put grease in starter bushing. Checked all tranny to block bolts for tightness. Someth...

Re: Winding starter
Well my best guess is it's got to be the flywheel. There is a little wear on most off the teeth. Maybe a 1/16'' rounded on the tip of the teeth. Some spots there is more. Looking at the bendix gear it looks like it's catching the flywheel judging by the shiny wear on the teeth, if that makes sense. ...

Re: Winding starter
Thanks for your replies. I won't be able to work on this till the weekend. I'll update further when I do some more investigating.

Re: Winding starter
Yes I tried that. It's got to be a wiring problem somewhere. Just finding it will be a bear.

Re: Winding starter
Sorry for the confusion. The starter sounds like it's spinning fast, but I'm really not sure. Engine does not spin fast. Barely turns at first, then not at all. All the time making a whining sound. I tried jumper cables directly on my battery, on the solenoid stud, grounding at different locations. ...

Re: Winding starter
Yes the solenoid is brand new as is the starter. Or I guess I should say rebuilt. New bushing in the bell housing also. The starter gear jumps out there when I tested with the jumper cables. This was when the starter was on the ground. When I had it out and looked at the gear shaft and spacing by th...

Re: Winding starter
Turned the motor by hand and still same thing happens.
Pulled starter out and tested it with jumper cables.
Gear looks like it is engaging strong to me.
I'm stumped. Thanks for replies.

Re: Winding starter
I can see the motor turn very little. Maybe 1/16th of a turn. Then stops. So it can be one little spot in the flywheel and that's it? Man that's a pain.
If I turn the motor by hand a little, wouldn't that engage the flywheel in a good spot?

Winding starter- video page 3
I'm at a loss. New starter. New alternator. Good battery. New battery cables. Starter just whines. Turns the motor a little. Motor turns easily by hand. Flywheel looks ok. A few spots with a little wear. This started a while back, just every now and then. Most of the time it would do this with just ...

Re: IP empties upon shutdown
This is exactly what I just went through. I have clear lines also. While it was running there was foam like air bubbles coming out the return line. When I shut it off air bubbles came out the inlet side. If it sat for awhile all the fuel drained out the line from IP to filter. Making it tough to sta...

Success! No more air bubbles. Hopefully no more fuel leaks.

Re: Replacing IP shaft seal
One more question.
Should the seal be flush with the IP body or in a little?
I noticed that there is a beveled edge around the opening.
Thanks.

Re: Replacing IP shaft seal
Well I got the practice one done. Getting that seal to turn first was the ticket for me.
Tomorrow I go after the real one.
If there is diesel fuel on my timing belt, should I replace it? It pretty new. Thanks.
