I just put some fuel in the old Jetta and it's the highest I've ever seen it at $1.37/ litre. I can't believe it. Gas is only $1.10.

Just hit $1.33/ litre around here. With gas at around $1.10/ litre it's as cheap for me to drive my gasser Jetta as the diesel now. The bright side is that I just found a great source of WVO and will hopefully be burning that in the diesel as soon as the weather warms up.

I had a similar problem a couple winters ago and it was a pinhole in the piston on one of my front calipers. The piston had made a tight seal to the back of the brake pad and the fluid took a long time to leak out enough for me to notice. More likely a rear wheel cylinder though.

It's not really that bad. All 10 mm bolts if I'm not mistaken. The hardest part is finding the bolts where it bolts near the door that are covered in really thick undercoating. Easier on a MKII than on a Rabbit in my opinion.

This is just my opinion, but I'd get a good Bosch and put on it and forget about the Motorola. Any time I ever tried to run Motorola's I had nothing but trouble and I've never had any real trouble with Bosch.

I used to get 52 mpg (US gallon) with my 85 Coupe when I first bought it but am only getting around 45 mpg with the motor I have in it now and this one only has about half the mileage the original one had on it. On the highway for 5 hours at around 130 to 140 km/h I only get around 40 mpg. Unfortuna...

I watched an old VW guy changing his glow plugs and to get the nuts off without dropping and to start them back on he used a piece of a coat hanger with a bend in it butted against the stud. Spun the nut off right onto the coat hanger and lifted it out. Put the nut on the coat hanger and butted it a...

I swear that's what the speedometer was showing. Could be why I ended up changing the motor shortly afterwards.

How do you go faster than 140kph on a 1.6N/A diesel? Down a hill? Or maybe you have a turbo one. My rabbit would only do 136kph on the flat with a four speed NA 1.6. Its speedo went to 180, I always wondered why the speedo would go to 180? I remember the old dodge omni 2.2went to 140kph and it woul...

Here's mine rolling over 700,000 (kms though, not miles) a little over a year ago. I'm up to 745,000 now.

A guy stopped in here a while back with a TD MKII Jetta and a gasser automatic transmission and claimed it works great (except for a lack of power). I have an automatic gasser and the automatics aren't that bad but the fuel economy with it is terrible, 22 mpg or so. That's the biggest complaint I've...

I've always changed mine through the top with the transmission and manifolds attached. I left the alternator off until I got the engine back in and took the rad and the whole rad support off to get more room. Never tried it with the hood still on though. Last time I did it it took around 7 hours by ...

It is a long shot, but you might want to see if that car has ever had that recall performed. If not, this one might be on VW. Surely there isn't a statute of limitations on safety recalls, is there? -Jeremy I just tried that this winter when I blew the heater core in my old Jetta and the local deal...

I'm having the same pressurizing problem since I overheated my 85 Jetta when the heater core blew this winter but no oil in the coolant so far. Shouldn't it overheat if combustion chamber pressure is leaking into the coolant? My temperature gauge rarely ever goes up past half way.
