Re: Bubbles around glowplug
If the pump is too advanced for the engine, would that cause starting troubles? I know having too much retard does. I'm tryna figure out if the starting and the rough idling are connected. I know on my previous injectors the engine used to run lumpy for a couple of seconds but that was cured when I ...

Re: Bubbles around glowplug
Quantum-man, the engine does take a few cranks to start even though the fuel pump is fully advanced. Once running at over idle it smooths out. This is the same with vegetable oil and diesel, although on diesel it does seem to run better.

Re: Bubbles around glowplug
I can't see that helping TBH, fatmobile. It seems to have melded with the head. When I changed the injectors some time ago I broke the end off a small flat blade screwdriver, god only knows how it didn't fall into the cylinder. Quantum-man, it is an old style mechanical IDI lump. Now I'm not sure wh...

Re: Bubbles around glowplug
It's a 96 bud. About the copper seal, that is for the injector. The glowplugs on mine don't have washers.

Bubbles around glowplug
I've got a problem with my diesel which I thought I had figured out. The car is idling rough and the fumes smell more strongly (because the fuel is not combusting properly) and bubbles are appearing around two of the glowplugs (although mainly one). I thought it was down to a sticking injector becau...

Re: Setting a Bosch idle
Are you sure you don't ave any throttle shaft play? That in conjunction with the mods could be contributing to the lack of a repeatable idle setting. Just a guess on my part - I had a pump with throttle shaft play that would change idle speed especially when the pump got heated up completely. I don...

Re: Setting a Bosch idle
With a nut and a washer on the governor spring shaft. It was still compressable.

Setting a Bosch idle
Right, trying to get this thing idling right. Everytime I start it up it seems to have a different idle. I am adjusting the throttle rest screw (at the back of the pump), the max fuel screw and the throttle arm on the splines. On the current settings I have got it to idle at ~1k but a couple of time...

Re: Bosch VE pump; won't idle after rebuild
Okay guys; I might have something to offer her in way of an explanation. Let's just have a recap on how it all started. The original pump was leaking, I pulled it to renew the distributor head seal. It initially fired up then died again, I thought it just had air in it. But it kept on doing it so I ...

Re: Bosch VE pump; won't idle after rebuild
Where would the air be coming from though? If you've run it from a bottle for about a minute that should have cleared all the air right out. I don't really get why it would be sucking fuel in now, the only areas of the fuel system that need disturbing for the pump change are the fuel inlet and outle...

Re: Bosch VE pump; won't idle after rebuild
Okay, tried a replacement fuel pump (unopened by anyone), same problem. So the problem is not the fuel pump. Also tried spare injectors, same problem. Checked timing, checked woodruff key slot (sometimes they get chewed up for some reason), checked fuel inlet and outlet banjos, checked almost everyt...

Re: Bosch VE pump; won't idle after rebuild
Thanks bud, useful information there. To me it sounds like something got out of calibration when we rebuild our pumps. My one is also hard to start after it has cut out as well. I have had the fuel screw 2/3rds of the way in and it still has problems, I am gonna try it all the way in this time and s...

Re: Bosch VE pump; won't idle after rebuild
Alright thanks bud. No I don't have clear fuel lines but I know that there is no air in the system because I have ran it from a bottle of fuel and it still has the same symptoms. Not really expecting anyone to be able to diagnose it really, just wanted to see if it had happened to anyone else

Bosch VE pump; won't idle after rebuild
Howdy guys, this is my first post around here so don't be too nasty  I pulled my Bosch VE pump to reseal it and put it back on, it runs and revs fine but after a minute or two it goes into this weird "mode" where it hunts in the revs (i.e., revs up and down) and the idle goes really ...
