Nope, Bentley says, "After the vehicle has been driven for approximately 1,500 km (1,000 mi.)...." then goes on to tell how to retorque. In regard to what year they switched from 11 mm to 12 mm. I found this link: http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1283&highlight=11mm+12mm I...

If you have the original engine in your Rabbit, probably a CR engine code, then you have 11 mm head bolts (non stretch). All you need is a 10mm allen socket for your torque wrench. Here is the sequence: 10 4 2 6 8 7 5 1 3 9 Bentley says to loosen the bolt 30 degrees and then tighten to 66 ft. lbs in...

When I took the head off, I did not know to check for piston clearances. I am sure I could have just taken my feeler gauges I use for the valve clearances and stuck it in between the piston and the wall. That was my first time changing the head gasket. I was just happy I got it back together and it ...

That's what I was afraid of. While the head was off, I could very slightly move the piston from front to back. I might try to milk it through the rest of the summer and look into maybe getting a rebuilt engine from Jack unless I run across a used engine with low miles. The body is in good shape and ...

Burning 3.5 qts per 1,000 miles

I went a trip this weekend, and traveled 1,000 miles. I knew the car used oil and I ended up putting in 3.5 qts by the time I got back home and put it back up at the full mark. The engine used to leak oil and I thought it was just leaking the oil out of the head gasket. I replaced that (no head work...

This is on my 1.6 NA diesel running 5w40 Rotella Synthetic with all readings are being measured at the head. Idle cold = 100+ psi Idle warm = 25+ psi Idle very warm = 20 psi 70 mph warm (~3,000 RPM) = 75+ psi 70 mph very warm (~3,000 RPM) = 60 psi Defintions: warm - engine at operating temps (190F) ...

That is my favorite video. I have always wanted to do that to some muscle car. I love the sound of those 5.9L TD Cummins. Those engines turned up, and make the old 454's seem like turtles.

The orginal steel rims on a rabbit I know are different than those steel rims of MkII Jetts. Rabbit rims are dished in while the later rims are not dished in so far. I do not know the specs, but their should be enough clearance for them to be interchangable.

JSMCLAUGHLIN - I would agree that what this guy tried to do is unethical. I would contact eBay and and report fishbambam of what he tried to do. While what he is trying to do is possible, he should have communicated that with you of his intentions to be completely honest. He should have bought the c...

Most likely it is a 1.6L NA Diesel. It is too late for a regular turbo Diesel (only produced in 85 and 86) and too early for the ECODiesel (only produced in 91 and 92). I have not seen any 89 Jetta's or Golf's with an orginal turbo in the US.
