Well, It looks like you all might be right. I can't get even the thinnest of feeler gauges to fit between the lifter and cam lobe on the exhaust valve.

As soon as I figure out some way to get that shim out, I'll try a thinner one and see if that helps. I'm guessing it will make all the difference!

That's a thought... I did replace the exhaust valve shim for #4, but I never rechecked any of the valves after warming the engine up.

Are these heat shields good for nothing once you take the injectors out? Cuz for warmup purposes I might be reusing the ones in there.

Hmm, good info. I'm not sure if I was clear or not, but I wasn't trying to force air IN to the bearing area, but was just using the mityvac on the drain line to suck oil THROUGH the bearing area.
