Late 80's MKII turbo jetta victum of CFC

So I just returned from my local Toyota dealer to pick up some factory coolant, I noticed a nice mint MKII jetta with the "turbo diesel" badge on the back and was very interested in it- then I spotted the white lettering on the drivers window CFC- my jaw dropped and a sales person wandered...

Last year I put my vw in storeage as diesel was $1 a gallon more expensive, so now with diesel less than unleaded I moved the boat out of the shop and uncovered, undusted the resting golf, connected the battery and it fired up just like it was a 90F day on a warm engine, simply amazing! i backed it ...

my dad used to work with a guy with a 82' diesel rabbit 5 speed, he racked over 500,000 miles on it before selling it on craiglist and buying a new TDI
he commutes 100 miles ONE WAY to work, then works 4 10's

got mine from a local vw dealer, still being made to this date! now the pump itself, nope still driveing my 85' golf with rock stiff brakes, and with my led foot one hand on the e-brake is a must!

Yes, its on my 85' 1.6 that im working on and pulling the intermediate shaft pully is what I was affraid of, so much for my 2 hours i had in mind. Luckly when I put the new pump in back in 2004 i used alot of anti sieze on the bolts :) so at 30k should i also replace the timeing belt or is it rated ...

water pump bad @30K, must remove timeing belt idler?

Today I set out to throw a new water pump in my golf as the old one gave up at 30k and I budgeted around 2 hours for this, am I correct that I must remove the timeing belt idler? If so any quick tips to make this go faster?

i use synthetic in all of my engines except my high mileage toyota and Vw diesel, i swapped both over to synthetic and had the exact result as surfcam did in both my toyota truck and vw diesel. i have now put both back to dyno and the leaking and oil useage stopped.
