not really sure of your problem yet, a blown hg can have a few symptoms, loss of compression is 1, leaking oil&/orwater esp into cyl and going out exh, or oil/water mixing 2. if you can get it started and take a look around for source of all the water your finding. check around water flange real...

if that white smoke you say you see is coolant it ll have a distinctive sweet smell, are you losing coolant? check around the head water flange, if you can get it running look good for traces of leak. (warm up 1st is better) as far as it not starting, you have fuel flow(cracked injectors?). glow plu...

Re: oil pressure question

dont jump to the fact i mentioned rings, were not sure of that at this point, there are some other things go see how it goes 1st, as long as you get that overfill straightened out, pull pcv, delete, and run at idle for a while and check out the vents and how they are doing, then around the block at ...

Re: oil pressure question

that hose coming out of crankcase sometimes is coupled with a relief for vac pump and for ccv. take hose off valve cover and run her and if you have a lot of oil coming up out of that vent, im afraid new rings fix that, look in your air box @intake and look for oil there, more than a little moisture...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Drive.

Before I changed the fluid and the fluid that was in there was nasty brown garbage. Even after fresh fluid (Advance Auto 75w90) the shifting is exactly the same. i hope when you used this 'gear oil' you checked it is the right type, we use transaxle fluid/oil. gl-4 if im right. the 75w90 sounds lik...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

on mine there are a couple of the bushings you can see, you cannt see the reverse one's, 2 or more. theres the main1 underneath right near the exhaust, the main shaft(shift). the ball & cage operation, and the bushing(s) in the shift column. anyone of them can be neglected. oh yea, the adjustmen...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

I doubt my transmission grinding is fluid related. It's grinding all the gears, 2nd and 3rd are the worse, but 4th can be tricky. Down shifting is awful, unless I'm stopped. Before I changed the fluid and the fluid that was in there was nasty brown garbage. Even after fresh fluid (Advance Auto 75w9...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

i put in new motor mounts in mine, i had to take down oil pan to jack engine up for front and rear pass side mounts. power steering may need a new belt and/or adjustment, its difficult the first time to adjust, you have to find 2 or 3 bolts/nuts for adjustment, could be bad mounts too. when you loos...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

and you should have power, hopefully. I then took the other end and quickly stuck it on the battery (minimal sparks) and held it for 10-15 seconds. The old girl that has endured my poking, prodding, and experimental abuse all week long instantly fired up and ran like a dream. and voila you have powe...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

yea im for a direct connection from pos batt to glowplugs. make sure you disconnect direct connection after 20-30secs. you can crank engine over after 15-20secs, hold connection and if starts disconnect. if not disconnect. if glowplugs dont heat up in 20-30secs, in warmer/balmier weather 20 secs. ch...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

well if the injpump solenoid clicks, the next thing is to see if you have fuel at injectors, if not thats most likely, it drained back into the fuel tank, if you do have fuel when you crack lines you go from there, glowplugs?? id figure is next. the main thing those inj line connections are snug tig...

Re: New To Me Diesel Rabbit Won't Start. Ran Fine on Test Dr

dont pour anything down an intake, thats pure liquid fuel trying to be compressed by piston, a good way to lose it! the inj pump solenoid needs to 'click' when you cycle the key, if it does you now can take a 17mm wrench(a flange wrench is recommended for beginners) and crank, loosen each line as yo...

Re: Mechanical Head

or you have head unsupported and upright; what i mean is when you turn cam the valve is opening on the weight of the head, not good, either support head so valves have clearance or turn head on its side (ex studs), and have someone hold head steady.

Re: Mechanical Head

i use a 300mm cresent like in the bentley; cam should turn fairly easily with wrench, you may need to check for whats binding. maybe you put a spring in wrong or a valve/spring are hanging.
